This takes a lot of work, but its possible! I did it with my boyfriend. :)
The biggest thing you have to remember is to not get jealous. As soon as you get jealous of other girls he is flirting with, he's going to brush you off. Just have fun together, be outgoing, and try and hang out alone a little bit. Don't hurry things (it took me about 6 months to get my boyfriend to really settle down with me), but BE CAREFUL. Don't get played and don't let him use you or hurt your feelings.
