How can I know if he cares about me for more than a friend?

We have been friends for a few months and he is so very nervous and shy around me, and we chat on line quite a bit but not every night and talk on phone some, but we do not get to see each other much cause we both do have VERY busy schedules and such, Although he has never came out and said anything direct , he always says he misses me when we do not talk and he did tell me once that he cares about me. He says he worries about me when I am sick. he sends me hugs on the messenger, etc... I did ask him once what he wanted with me and he said a friend. But I think he likes me more, and somehow I get the feeling he is really scared I really do. Please guys give me your advice and how I should proceed? I do not want to scare him off cause I really like him a lot.

This is a tricky situation. If pressing your feelings on him scares him away, then. Well. That's terrible. You might be forced to wait for him to make a move, otherwise, there's just no way to know when and if he's ready for something.
