i met a girl a while back and we get along real well. We mostly text now, and I am interested in getting to know her more than just a friend. Thing is, she's has been dating for a while now, and I'm wondering if I should just back off for a while to avoid the "just a friend" slot, but if I do that won't it seem like I'm not interested in her? What should I do?
Probably the best thing would be to keep communicating with her, whether it's just through texting or email, because at least that way, if she should ever become single, then you'll know. If you cut off all communication with her, and she does become single for whatever reason, how are you to know? Keep talking to her, but keep it casual, don't stop talking to her because you'll never know if you have a chance with her in the future.
I think you should remain friends but hint to her that you think of her as more, and see how she reacts. Just be a little extra flirty and see how it goes-- if she doesn't respond well, remain a friend but back off a little. If she flirts back, keep flirting!
This is some difficult advice I'm about to give you, but trust me on this one.
What you should do: Be her friend. It's a simple as that. If you like her more than just a friend and she does too, that's great. But, you seem to also like her as a friend, right? Hopefully. And if you like spending time with her and talking with her, then keep it up. If she just wants to be friends, then I think you still should remain that way because you never know what could happen in the future.
Another thing to note: You are under 18, meaning that you're still in high school. It's summer too! Have fun. Hang out with her as friends. See what happens. Most importantly, respect her though. Seriously. Maybe bring up the topic of being more than just friends. If you're bold enough to do it, then I'd say go for it. Ask her on a date. Go with your gut. But if she declines, you should talk about it and try and not let it be awkward the next time you guys talk.
The trick for not letting a situation be awkward is this: If you don't think it's awkward and you go with the flow, then it won't be awkward (at least not for you).
What you are going to do: I'm not sure. It's totally up to you, but I hope that my advice has helped you and I defintely would like to be updated.

Describe your ideal first date; Where do you go? What do you wear? How does the date end?
First date? Either to some sports thing (you have something to talk about, no awkward silences) or a park, amusement or other kinds.
I'd wear my best jeans and a nice shirt, something that can be casual or dressy.
Afterwards..what will your date know about you?
He'll know I'm outgoing, once you crack my shell, I love music, and that I'm competitive and fun. He'll lnow I'm not clingy and that I am a little bit of a tomboy.
