How can I talk to this guy when we are so different?

Haha what if she really doesn't know that band?! Be cool with him say, "hey" every once in a while then after a while introduce yourself. But be real because if he doesn't like you for who you are then why would you like him?

Ok, it may be hard to believe, people, but punks have lives besides music. I'm sure he's interested in something else besides bands. Talk to him about whatever it is he's interested in. He's probably mentioned a movie he likes or something. If you've seen it, great! If you haven't, say you're wondering if you should see a movie and ask him about it.

Try to act "cool" around him. Hard core guys are usually hard core and don't like girls that are sissy and preppy. Try not to giggle to much, but don't be too serious either. Try telling him something funny. Ask him questions about himself

Write him a note.

Well I would say just be really normal and make friendly conversation with him. If you are ever near him and niether one of you is saying anything, then start up a conversation. You said he is punk, so if he is wearing a band t-shirt, just be like "dude, I love that band!" And then before you know it, you are having a conversation! Trust me, it works everytime!
