Keep it simple. If I'm at a bar, I prefer a guy just say hey or hi and offer to buy me a drink. And keep up simple conversation.
If I'm just out shopping or something, a nice, genuine compliment is a good way to talk to a girl. If a guy complimented my eyes, or smile, or what I was wearing in a way that sounded genuine and not creepy or perverted I would defenitely respond.
