The problem is separating from friends. I have a friend in this class and we are always sitting next to each other, and sometimes I feel like I have to be talking to her. I sit right next to this boy and we talk about math (yawn) but that's as far as our conversation topic has progressed -- mostly because our conversations are always interrupted by the teacher. I have tried the after class thing but not only do I have a friend that clings to me, he has a friend who he hangs out with. How do I make this move further?

Is there any chance you can talk to him before class? Also, if there is an exam coming, what about studying together? And is he good at math? What about pretending you need help and askng him to help you and set up some type of 'math help appt'?

Yes, treat us equal in every way, even if it causes us problems

No, we should get equality when we want it, but preferential treatment other times.
