Buying a girl a drink at a bar?

I may be unlike everyone else (for the most part), because I find it so tacky if a guy approaches me in the bar asking if he can buy me a drink. This is simply because he's JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER GUY. I want a guy to show me that he notices me. But in a less cliche way. That has him thinking outside of a box.

If your opening line is buying her a drink, ask her if it's ok. A lot of women are independent, and would rather you ask her first.

Girls that except a drink from a guy at the bar usually think to themselves. "Yes! Now I just got to chill with him all night for free drinks! "

Really I would start a conversation to get to know the girl to see if she's genuine. Most chicks at clubs/bars are out just for free drinks.

I love it, it shows that he's into me and willing to spend his money on a drink to impress me. I like it whenever a man wants to spend his money on me. It's flattering, and a nice way to get my attention.

I've argued about this a lot with my friends so maybe I'm not normal, but I really DON'T like a guy I don't know buying me a drink. I feel like he's trying to buy my time or attention. I feel like I owe him something. I'd rather him find something interesting/funny to say (no creepy pick up lines though! ) just casual conversation. That way there is a lot less pressure on both sides and we can just get to know each other, and take things from there.
It seems to me that a girl who likes free drinks is too absorbed in her ego and the contents of your wallet!
