Confidence, responsibility, and a great sense of humor are great starts. Appearance is what attracts the opposite sex at first, but it's what's on the inside that keeps the girl. I know, when I see a guy that shows a great deal of confidence ( but not too arrogant or cocky) it definately gets me to notice them and it's an attractive quality.
The most important thing is to be genuine, and friendly. Be yourself. If you do this, you will be confident in who you are. There is noting to be gained by pretending to be something, or someone, you're not. As far as appearance goes, be neat and clean. And always make sure you dress appropriately, according to the occasion.
