Just a silly little question, I'm wondering if it matters to girls what kind of music a guy listens to. Other than the obvious benefit of being into the same music, is there any style that would bother most girls?
For me I'm thinking metal, I listen to a lot of European metal bands (which differ mainly in that they are not the angry, technically reduced MTV-ized version of the genre that's popular in the US). I know this might be a weird question, I just wonder if girls opinions of a guy are influenced much by his music choice. For me mainly that I don't want to be seen as angry or violent or whatever. I'm keeping this question general though, not just about metal but any particular music preference.
I'm interested in a guy's music preference mostly because it gives us something to talk about. If we have similar taste in music, we might have similar taste in other things too. Of course, if his favorite band is something I've never heard of, then that gives us something to explore together as well. I'm not going to ditch a guy just because he likes a genre I don't enjoy- unless it's rap. :-P Your European metal actually sounds pretty interesting since it sounds like you've broadened your horizons by listening to music outside of the US, so it might actually be to your advantage to say you like something like that. It also give you a chance to explain why you like it and how awesome it is. If a guy says he ONLY listens to one kind of music though, then it's a bit of a turnoff since the message that sends is that he doesn't like to try new things or explore at all. So, your favorite kind of music isn't likely to freak me out (unless you ONLY listen to Frank Sinatra or something, haha) so long as you are willing to give other things a chance too.
It does matter in the sense that if you were into the same type of music you would have something in common but if a girl chooses not to date you because of you're music preference she is shallow and not worth your time!
