I think it is a great gift no matter what ind of guy he is. Basically the only guys who won't like it are: -Psychopath convict from San Quentin who hates everything -Somebody who for some reason is traumatized by penguins I'm pretty sure your best guy friend isn't one of those.
I think that it is very cool that you made this friend something. It shows him that you care about him enough to spend time making him something. I would be careful because there are lots of guys out there that can be jerks, and I think depending on this guy that the gift my not get the response that you are looking for.
