I have this pain on my left side between the last rib bone and my hip; It's all the way on my side tho and it kind of hurts a little around my lower back. I know none of you guys are not a doctor or anything but maybe some of you could possibly give me your opinion on what it might be cause by; and yes I know I should go to the doctor and get it checked, etc but I just want to know some possibilities. This pain has been going on for about a week now ever since my boyfriend grabbed me but he didn't know that he grabbed me that hard/tight and ever since the pain hasn't went away...

Update: Also why do yo you think it hurts on that spot when I suck my stomach in or try flexing that area? Do you think this might be something very serious?    2 months ago

Update: Ok so it doesn't hurt that much anymore. It feels like the pain is going away. I can turn and flex that side as much as I want and it doesn't hurt.    2 months ago

What are the possibilities:
1) Post traumatic bruising or other tissue damage
2) Muscle strain
3) Possible kidney issues
4) Your left ovary could be giving you problems
5) Ectopic pregnancy
6) Any of a variety of issues with your colon
7) Any of a variety of types of tumors (really doubtful as this is a recent onset kind of problem and I would generally expect some other complaints besides just pain)
8) Break or bruise of your 10th, 11th, or 12th ribs or the cartilage joining them
9) Tender spleen

I think the first 2 are the most likely followed by number 8, but without more info it is impossible to say. If you are worried then see your doctor. It is more likely than not something totally benign, but that will at least put your mind at rest.

swtbttrfly I was thinking it was number 8, though probably not broken. I once bruised a rib and slightly separated the cartilage between ribs from sleeping on a crappy futon, and it hurt like hell for a while. I'm doubting that it's broken though, because if it was broken you would be in such immense pain that you would have gone to the doctor by now. Get it checked out though, you never know until you get it looked at! - 2 months ago
Answerer You would be surprised, but bruises and cartilage separation of the ribs can hurt just as bad or worse than a break. - 2 months ago
Answerer No, I don't think it is something very serious. Pain when sucking in your stomach or flexing your muscles is very consistent with muscle, bone, cartilage bruising or strain. That doesn't mean it can't be something serious, but just with the info you have given (which isn't much) there doesn't seem to be much reason for concern. But again, seeing a dr. can't hurt anything except your pocket book. - 2 months ago

Usually pains in that region mean you're ovulating/on your period.
But since he did grab you and its been hurting ever since...i would suggest getting it checked out! Pretty sure that is where your kidneys are located, he could've slightly punctured them!

Question Asker When you have a punctured kidney do you bleed or anything? - 2 months ago
Answerer Uhm not necessarily. I think if its punctured hard enough it can lead to internal bleeding! But I'm almost positive that just grabbing your side wouldn't puncture it severely! - 2 months ago
regular-guy If he had punctured your kidney and you had internal bleeding you wouldn't be debating whether or not you should go in. The pain would be severe and you would most likely be urinating blood. - 2 months ago
Answerer Yes, exactly - 2 months ago
Question Asker Oh ok well I haven't been urinating blood. - 2 months ago
Answerer I would suggest going to the doctor right away! - 2 months ago
