I don't understand why women can't go into combat. Its pretty unfair. Women are just as good as men really. Its a shame that they don't get the chance to prove it. Theres also this thing with over seas postings. My mums ex was posted to Germany and the dates that he was to be sent over was put back 4 times because of what I think was a loss in documents. He ended up being sent out several months after the original date of his posting. But granted, his accommodation there was really nice. As it generally is from what I have seen. That's a good point about the army = )
My hubby is active duty in the army. We are currently stationed in Korea. Which is where I am now.
I have a lot to say about the military. But I will keep it to the not so sensitive subjects because the last time I voiced my opinion about something. All I got was a bunch of anti war protesters beating me up over things I never even addressed in my statement. Not a very nice thing to do in my opinion.
I think that the military need a better paperwork system. They constantly lose paper work for everything. And they never know what is going on with the paper work. One person will pass it to another and so on and then it ends up with someone else who doesn't even handle that paperwork! It's a mess!
Ex:Our housing paperwork, our paperwork for his bonus and his warriors pass paper work to be able to live off post.
All lost. We had to collect every piece needed all over again.
Not to mention when a family comes over seas(IDK what it is like just moving in country)they never tell you all that needs to be done for your family.
They should have a packet saying everything you need to stay for the time your SO is staying. And it's sad B/C they have an orientation for spouses that they MUST attend to get a rations card. They could very easily provide a packet containing a list of things that need to be done so that it can all be done in a few weeks time.
BUT NO!
They tell the soldier at the last moment,oh. BTW. You need to make sure you do this. And then they get all pissy when the soldier asks for the time off to do it!

I know some people won't like this and what I am about to say might be unpatriotic. I can fully understand what Foxy-Sox is saying, and the reason the military is unorganized as she claims, is because the military does not hire the brightest and sharpest individuals in the country.
For example, at almost any university that has a corps of cadets style of education (such as the corps of cadets at Texas A&M or VA tech), those cadet students cannot take the most arduous and difficult degrees which are a real measure of one's intelligence. For example, at Texas A&M, almost no cadets are engineering or science majors because the students must spend their free time and weekends doing physical training and drills. This allows no time for doing homework and studying. So the cadets almost unanimously take easier majors.
Also those cadets almost unanimously have military careers waiting for them, but they were trained to use their bodies and not so much their minds by solving hard homework problems. Also the US Army Corps of Engineering hires the crappiest of the crap who have engineering degrees. That is because they pay so low and the private corporations pay high and take most of the best engineers and scientists. That's capitalism for you.
Even beyond science and engineering majors (but any degree), corporations in general take the brightest individuals because they pay more. So the military is largely full of leftovers.
My only negative opinion of the military is that it's becoming too internally political; to the point where unit cohesiveness doesn't exist, it is everyone for themselves. Also, since special interest groups and corporations have a large influence over the government, I think the military is being misused to fight for reasons it shouldn't be. Those are some of the reasons I left the service. It's no longer about protecting ourselves.
I feel bad for those overseas right now, and hopefully they can safely return sooner, rather than later.
