I put a lot of thought and research into this and I just can't figure it out because when I browsed the Q'urran I found no passages that supports Domestic violence, Blowing up innocent civilians, the 27 virgins when you die a martyrs death or anything else like that Which means all that crap has nothing to do with Islam its just a bullsh*t attitude that sadly hasn't changed in the last 1,400 years. Plus from my own experiences with Muslims (through school and work.) I found them to be respectful other religions, people and cultures Even though one or two of them were overly religious and were serious as hell ( some Christians are like that too...Trust me) but other then that they were fine...So What is people's beef with Muslims...Yes I do know that their are Extremist groups (both Muslims and Christians) out there that need to be dealt with. So why to people think that a other wise peaceful religion is evil?

Koran I believe is correct...

Let me just say it all starts at home...Most people CAN think for themselves but too many just go along with "mom and dad".

It makes me SICK to see how other cultures are treated here in the states. Especially when they are very very grateful to be here and really appreciate all the luxaries that we take for granted...I don't try and understand people to much...Just do the right thing and treat others and you would like to be treated.

Peace :--)

From what I know the main denominations are Sunnis and Shi'ites. I'm not sure which but one group is political whereas the other is peaceful. The Qu'ran contains conflicting passages so extremists will take a certain passage and say "aha! this means I should do this..." Then a moderate will emphasise a different passage. I think the problem with Islam is that it is all or nothing for most practitioners which doesn't leave much place for compromise.

To be honest, Jews have done this with the Zionist movement-because it said it in the Bible too! I mean the bible is thousands of years old so it should NOT be taken literally for ANY religon. The Palestinians were given a raw deal there but the media and international agencies are doing very little to help them. The attention is always focused on terrorism from Muslims instead and I think the Muslim community are being used as scapegoats. I mean sure its a problem but you can't go saying every Muslim is a terrorist etc. But if you look back over history, you'll see that nearly every racial group/ethnicity/religion has become a scapegoat in a political issue at one point or other. I think Bush created this hysteria in USA which made the whole thing much worse. Compare him with Clinton. I'm not saying Clinton was amazing but at least he wasn't starting wars left right and centre. I just think Bush gave Islam extremists more of a reason to hate USA and the West than they already had. I'm sure a lot of these people have seen family members killed in Iraq etc so they will become bitter towards the West then.

Some Muslim countries like Iran had gotten more progressive by the 1960s but then in Iran, a new stricter government came into power that basically wanted to overthrow any progress that had been made, especially in relation to women. I do think Westernisation provoked a backlash from strict Muslims against what they perceived as loose morals basically and then they enforced a stricter version of Islam similar to that practiced years and years ago.

Christianity invaded different territories to spread the faith hundreds of years ago with the Crusades.

Religion should NOT have anything to do with politics. And I mean that for every religion. I'm all for everyone believing what they want but don't use for politics.

It's because people fear what they do not understand but they can't be botherd to try and understand what they fear. In other words, people have their heads jammed reeeeeeaaaal far up their ass and seem to like it up there. Not to mention the whole 9/11 thing. That was just a few f Muslims and suddenly all of them are evil. I guess people are just morons. They can't be taught.

also christians do not deny jews and jews do not deny christians, they both think the other is wrong but are not denying their faith completely. This proven because there are Jewish Christians just like there are Buddhist Christians, the aspects of all religion are based on believe. What happened and what did not, not that a religion does not even exist or is completely false-that is just stupid.

The following is just ONE reason...

"One of the more controversial issues in Islam is the Quran’s authorization for husbands to beat disobedient wives. This is found in chapter 4, verse 34. Additional references on wife beating are found in Muhammad’s traditions (hadith), and biographical material (sira). Many people have criticized Islam because of this harsh sanction and many Muslims have written articles seeking to mollify or defend it."

rockstare No it doesn't, the bible tells stories that mentions slavery but does not say you should own a slave. when it uses slaves as a lesson it is referring to one's self because a slave is property. you are really inaccurate, do you just spew stuff out of your mouth or do you actually think before you say it? - 4 months ago

because of terrorist attacks, there is a fear of that. I'm Christian. I believe those who were responsible for violence are evil. I don't associate a whole group of individuals as evil because that would be discrimination, however, I find that because of 911, there will be feelings of anomosity on both sides because loved ones of those who lost someone close to them feel anger and despair however yes I agree there are evil people from all religions as well as good ones when you look at the socialogical situation, objectively.

Up until the past year, the only education I had on the Muslim faith was from my freshman year of high school. Unacceptable, I know. We spent a week talking about the background and the Qur'an. After being hired at a school that has a large number of Middle Eastern and Muslim students, my curiosity got the best of me. I began asking (polite) questions about their faith. My students were happy to explain their beliefs and traditions.

While their faith is different than mine, I respect their values and dedication. Christians are notorious for being hypocrites and hateful but it seems like we're the only ones. To see so many young adolescents involved in their faith, it made me proud.

I think educated and cultured people are MUCH less likely to consider people from this faith to be "evil". It's usually the uneducated and narrowminded folks who aren't exposed to different cultures that end up having problems with accepting other faiths. That and the twist the media has on current events in the Middle East.

I don't think they're evil. I used to but I think it's because we associate their religion with bad things. It's not the faith, it's the person. I actually think Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are the same religions worshipping in different ways.

Ceesa The 3 of them came from God, but Judaism deny Chrisitianity, Christianity believe in Judaism and Christianity but denys Islam, Islam is approving both Judaism and Christianity..but Islam is the one needed to practice..
bellahgd "Islam is approving both Judaism and Christianity"... tell me honestly what universe do you live in? - 4 months ago
Answerer Islam does approve christianity but not Judaism. Judaism believes Christians are currupt Jews. Christians believe Jews are corrupt Christians and Islam is completely false. I don't believe that, I just think we all have different names for God and give different details about exactly what happened. - 4 months ago
bellahgd Omg where did you go to shcooool??? - 4 months ago
sona1505 Ok wow there! now let me give you a little lesson... you were probably sleeping during religion class ;) Judaism denies Christianity and Islam... Christianity denies Islam but does NOT deny Judaism... and Islam denies Christianity and denies Judaism. The Bible was created from the Torah.. Christians know that... now Islam and Judaism fight over who was chosen by God... the Jews or the Muslims? and that's what you missed in class while you where sleeping! - 4 months ago
Answerer Um I don't take a class, I get it straight from the faith as in church so yeah. hush please because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. But you're probably to stubborn to believe http://www.religionfacts.com/islam/comparison_charts/islam_judaism_christianity.htm that should just repeat everything that I already said and clarify a thing or two. In conclusion I doubt you've taken any class because your logic is that of an 8 year old. - 4 months ago
Ceesa No, I'm a Muslim we approve both of them as religions came from God, but it should not be pratcticed because it has changed over the years Islam is the last.
Like Jews should've stopped practicing Judaism as soon as Jesus (peace be upon him) came with christianity. - 4 months ago
rdabby Islam approves both christianity and judaism, if you do not believe in them then you re not a muslim. islam doesn't approve zionism which is completely different from judaism! - 2 months ago

I came up on this forum when I was browsing through similar related links...

As for my answer I would have to say that...throughout the 1400 years...many people have been misunderstood and misplaced so many of the history of Islam to such an extent that everyone has questions to ask about this and that. In this moment I would like to add that...the history of Islam shows that muslims were strong and large in number all over the world. it is also important to mark that Islam and Buddhism has been on this earth much more longer than any other religion...because even Christianity came only after Jesus (Eesa). It is also important to know that Muslims were all over the world...and they invented so many of the things we are using in the name of others. Did any one of you know that, Algebra came originally from a Muslim Scholar Al’ Khwarizmi...that the father of Chemistry Jabir Ibn Hayyan is a Muslim...who was the first anthropologist? the father of modern day medicine? father of optics? pioneers of engineering? astronomy? economics? sociology? geography? and biology? who had the world's largest Library? all Muslims my dears...they conquered all these modern day facilities that others are taking credit for years and years ago...

What happened then? where are the books, the huge library all the documents...and certificates? "They" saw the achievements...the wealth...the names...they got scared...cause their number was smaller...some group of people who simply could not see the logic...who simply refused to believe...fine...understandable its their right...but who declared war first...who attacked first...definitely not the Muslims. they were the ones who were attacked...they were snatched of their lands...their achievements...the world's largest library was set on fire...after all their books were stolen...they did not steal the paper alone...they stole the knowledge which came with the books...translating the Arabic words in to their own languages...and finally burning the years of islamic history...

What came with is...mass murders...mass killings of Muslims...why? ... for what? POWER...MONEY...and today we ask, why this is happening? why islam is looked down upon? because that attack on islam has not ended then and there...it is still continuing...why? because they are still scared...scared that islam will rise again...muslims will achieve all that back and they will fall down...that fright is making them turn the whole "religion" talk into a propaganda against islam...specially on the media...

From all this I am not saying that all Christians, Bhuddist, Jews, etc ,etc. are bad humans...no they are not...cause those who are true believers will also believe that...all humans are to be respected...all religions included. I respect all Religions...I respect human beings...and I want to say that not all humans are good and bad...there is always some good and some bad everywhere...we just have to stop generalizing.

that is a very interesting question, and I am glad there are some people out there who are willing to think out of their lives..no offence to anyone here :)
its just a conception of people being a particular way...its stereotyping more that anything else..everyone becomes a part of it.
there is nothing wrong with any religion and no one has I'm sure problems against any religion..its the politicising of religion I and I guess others have a problem with.i mean, religions are made part of the 'other',something separate from you..even though you are the mirror images of each other.i don't know how much sense I am making here, but its just that reigion has become a way of wielding power..all religions are humanitarian, all have same basic values..but the power play between people over very personal issues, gives reigion a bad name..any religion.
as far as the extremist groups..see,they use the garb of religion for their actions, which is not a very wise thing to do.

ok,i have rambled on enough and I am going to stop now.hope some of this made sense

I think its stuff that are brodcasted what's make them alll seem evil. Ii knoiw christians are like that but its in every religion there's always going to be nuts. like nazi were christian but I think there's a different form of every religion a evil side(kiiling) and a goodd side(helping). well that's what the media wants you to believe that Islam and Quran are evil, its not true at all!

Islam actually comes from the word Salam which means= peace. when they say Al slamau Aalekom as if they saying peace upon you..muslim= a peacefull person!
They re just normal people who have thier own beliefs, all the have to do in this world is to pray and live thier lives to the fullest without commeting sins as (drinking, sex outside marriage ,violence..etc)

real muslims do not believe in violence, they re not terrorists its just what the media wants the world to believe its like they re hating on the religion trying to make it appear as an evil religion when its actually a very peacefull one.

Those terrorists who "claim" to be muslims are considered terrorists in Islam too!
they just got the whole idea wrong ,they got the whole point wrong.. they re supposed to show the people into the right path not to kill them!

but the world grabs to these FEW people and judge Muslims by others actions its stupid.
I mean there are aloooooot of christians who done bad things in this world..wars, killing, raping...etc but when they wanna judge them they judge the PERSON not his RELIGION!
What I don't understand is why do they connect the evil actions by these stupid terrorists with islam! if they were jews or christians or whatever they wouldn't even mention his religion!

If you revisit history, Islamic conservatives believes Westernisation, secularisation and modernisation as something that is diminishing the Islamic order. The long history of Superpower interference during the Cold War also caused the rise of religious fundamentalism. People think it's evil because it's extremist and that they use violence etc. They want to create a country with Islamic order to return to the truth of the Qur'an, but with all the interference, of course they retaliate. So people paint their retaliation as evil and other people believe that they are evil.

That's what I think. Peace.

For me it's not the muslim part, and I think a lot of people will see the same way as me. You have to remember that I'm not from america so views here are different.
I live in Holland and although we seem a very open and tollerant country, we're not always like that. A lot of people think that muslims and other immigrants are taking advantage of us dutch people. And I don't mean to draw a line there I just don't know how else to say is. Most immigrants here are without work and cost us a lot of money. And because they have a diffirent belief they're catogorized like that, some people here say they hate black people, muslims, turkisch people and stuff like that. I think people start hating muslims because there are a couple of extreme muslim groups and a couple of idiots without jobs that keep pulling stupid stuff and people start thinking all muslims are like that...

For me personally I dispise everything that has anything to do with any god. I think people that need a faith to keep them strong are weak, and people that blaim everything bad or good that's happend on God should get a checkup. For me there is nothing supernatural. Just humanity, will power and passion. I think that keeps people strong and gives them courage. But I don't draw a line as to what god I don't believe in.

There's part of the Q'urran that says something close to "Shun the non-believer." People think it means to "Kill" the non-believer, but it's supposed to mean to just help them see the light and understand their religion. That's why Muslims started blowing up people, because it was misinterpreted. And people heard about the translation and think that Allah is telling them all ot kill. It's really just a simple misunderstanding that's created a big mess.

Muslims and Islam isn't a evil religion, actually quite peacefull.
The evil and corrupt ones are the Islamists, which is seeing Islam as a potical way of thinking and live the life. And that isn't got, it makes them really dangerous, religion and politics shouldn't be mixed together the way Islamists are doing.

I'm hoping they don't.

A lot of mass media is American (at least here in Australia it is). America is a majority Christian nation. The terrorist acts of fundamentalists are often carried out by muslim extremists.

The result is that it "sells better" to make "muslims" the "bad guys". Take the recent underwear bomber. I saw a dozen times that he was a muslim, but wasn't until ABC's Lateline that I found out he was brought up as a Christian.

Personally I'm an atheist. I don't believe any one religion has anything more right or wrong then any other. I just wish all the fundamentalists, muslims, christians, catholics, atheists, protestants, buddists (there's bound to be one), JWs and scientologists can all be lumped into the middle of a desert and left to fight it out until the last man stands.

Where upon they will be shot. And the rest of us can get on with living.

Hmm, maybe you should go read a Koran as I have skimmed over portions of one a relative of mine got to find out just "why this religion is evil" let's see, the religion promots pedophilia, violence and abuse of women... and even invites rape of women who are not veiled. Women are not allowed to own anything and as one of the sections in the Koran states "...women are as domestic animals...", within their own text it states there should be only one religion, all others should be wiped out (that's where the Ji'Had" or Holy War comes from... their unholy book even goes as far as to say that their language is the only holy language, and that if a Koran is not in their language, then it is not a true Koran, instead it is a pamphlet to convert people to their religion... if you don't believe me go by a Koran printed in your primary language and read through it. I'm open minded and acceptant of most other religions, but Islam and Satanism are religion (all sects of Satanism, regardless of whether it is ones dealing directly with the open whorship of Lucifer, or the idea of selfishness) I CANNOT sacrifice my morals, ethincs, or faith in my own religious beliefs to back, or even "be okay" with such blatenly evil practices of these religions.

You also might want to consider searching the internet for cases of where their religious beliefs have damaged and caused other misfortunes for people who aren't even involved with their religion and their religious practices. "Infedels" aren't even considered to be humans and therefore the raping, enslavement, or otherwise ill treatment is allowed. This religion and those who truly practice it make me literally sick to my stomach with good reason. Anyone who tries to defend it saying there's a lack of "understanding" clearly hasn't viewed any of it's content in depth, or any cases behind it. Also if you're really interested in what people who USED to practice the religion, but have since left the religion, because of its promotion of evils, talk to people who have converted, or look up any of the more famous ex-members who fight against it and are trying to raise awareness of what this religion promots and is.

Tell the victims of this religion that it's not evil what happened to them, tell the women and small children (some of which are no older than nine - 14) who are given up in place of debts and fees as if they are nothing more than currency, and often raped and otherwise sexually abused, that it is okay. Tell the beaten rape victims who will never know justice to their inflictor's that Shira law is acceptable...

rdabby This whole comment is just simply stupid! you need education and you gotta read the quran inorder to understand what it actually says! - 2 months ago
Answerer If you actually read my comment... I mentioned I had read portions of the quran (and am continuing to read and educate myself on this "religion" so that I can have a more solid backing for my logical criticism), second care to provide any counter evidence to support your profanely obtuse rebuttal? Childlishly spouting that my comment is "simply stupid" doesn't quite paint you as someone with an "education" or even someone in a position to adequately defend your position in a progressive way. - 2 months ago

com' on , I live in a country that is ruled by islam , iran , this religion is
simply a hug wash,i don't want to waste any time to make sure you like what I say but
the thing is this that you just have to ask yourself a couple of questions
1,what kind of religion is this that if you want to leave it you would be killed, what
is all this force to go to heaven?
2,again , what kind of religion is this that started its journey by war and kiiling
houndreds and thousands of people, what kind of prophet orders to KILL,
3 look at the countries that has been ruled by this religion, all 3rd world countries
who mostly participate in terrorist attacks.
I could go on and on about this , that would be the size of qu'ran.
think more pal.

People are Ignorant they don't understand that all believs are one and are trying to teach the same thing it only have diferent names and diferent storys to tell it. And Nac**s beleve in Jesus and stuff but they say black people go to hel and stuff so Just saying that you beleve doesn't mean you believe if you say that other religion is bad or you say that someone is bad becouse of his diferent hair color or skin or location where he lives means you don't believe in god(For exemple : one day I went to church, and some girls came with short skirts, not to short, and old ladie says how could you comed to church dresed like a slut. So the old lady judged how others loking and more than that she svears in the hause of god, so vhere here believs are?)

Oh dear, this is a loaded topic. Basically, you can't derive everything in Islam from the Qur'an. You must consult the Hadith, the Sunna, and the Shari'a as well. These are key documents to the Muslim faith, and are foundational to the Islamic worldview. Of course, the division between the Sunni and the Shiah is a major issue. Muslims kill each other just as much as non-Muslims, half the suicide bombings that kill non-Muslims are the result of them being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is natural that western culture and traditional Islamic culture have always been like oil and water, and so we have never blended very well.

A lack of education and understanding of the topic matters are a major issue. Americans are incredibly ignorant and arrogant, an extremely horrible combination. You must realize, however, that it is never a religion that gives itself a bad name, but those who uphold it.

Because of 9/11. When I went to Iraq, the Muslim men are total assholes to the women and children and are the dirtiest bastards. I never met one Iraqi man who was a asshole, even the ING soldiers who patrolled with us, they would smack kids, and yell at women who were "Talking out of line" don't get me wrong, the women would not shut the hell up, but they were just total assholes. And the whole terrorist thing

Answerer I don't give a sh*t if they talk to me politely, but they don't need too bitch slap their five year old kids, and choke out their wives because they are talking over them. I could give a f*** if they had an attitude to me, and they are mostly muslims - 4 months ago
Ceesa Iraqis are known with their aggresive attitude its nothing related to Islam wether he was Suni, Shee'e or Christian, they are tough and rude, no wonder you guys couldn't control them. No one can control Iraqis except a dictator such as Saddam! - 4 months ago

I don't dislike muslims. I have a few muslim friends just like I have christian, jewish, and atheist friends.

I don't understand why people despise them, but I can understand why they are wary of them. September 11th was a little over 8 years ago, and it is hard to overlook that. Our military is over there fighting against some of them. Like you said, they are extremisty groups and not everyone of that religion, but it doesn't help that we can't tell the difference until something happens.

A good post :).

Personal View: "Since morons like George Bush use them as political skape goats to sidetrack a nation from their own internal problems and focus them on things which distract them from his own corruption in government."

Seriously though, its the sheep mentality of the herd which causes all these issues. The media portrays and many people just believe. A few people, like yourself, actually double check the information with other sources and listen to alternative views, but the majority just go with the popular perception (rightly or wrongly).

As people become wise (since this information filters out from those who check to those who don't bother), the media will suddenly publish what good people discover for themselves but make out like they are the ones "uncovering another truth and scandal" when they (possibly knowingly) hid the truth in the first instance becuase it was profitable.

I often think its the role of the popular press to first create a popular lie, then to debunk their very own lies as the rightous voice of a nation. Sadly.

I suppose though, the popular press is a gargantuan engine not knowing its left from its right and could be considered innocent of foreknowledge this is going on. Somehow though, it feels more sinister and controlled, but that's just conspiracy theory talking I guess.

Its partly because of the Islamic states. I mean how can you have, in modern times, a country which is more than 99% one religion (officially that is). There are 8 in total including Iraq, Iran & Afghanistan. These are of course 'Islamic States'. It sickens me to think that Christians and no doubt other religions, are put to death legally, for denying Islam. If that ain't evil then what is.

I think with all the terrorist acts, the wars against terrorism, muslims cutting heads of prisoners and their wives, acceptable rape in muslim countries and everything else is why people think of Islam as evil. I've read parts of the quran and it seems peaceful but acts speak louder than words.

Yes there are Christian "terrorist" groups but they don't make video tapes of them cutting peoples head off or have cities screaming for the death of all infidels.

Question Asker I understand and get your point... but for the most part but rape isn't accepted in muslim countries....I saw a video once where. Three men were convicted of rapeing and murdering a 13 year-old girl. they lined them up ageisnt a wall and gave the family AK-47's...you get the rest...a little extream...I know but hey that's how its done there and for the record in most muslim countries the penlity for rape is death... - 5 months ago
Answerer I know in at least Afghanistan that if a girl is raped, she is usually blamed for it and stoned to death for not being a virgin/ committing adultery. - 5 months ago
SilentG Afhganistan is not a muslim country, it's one of the worst places on earth that was so badly messed up by your nato forces after it was badly broken after the soviet invasion in the 80's!! and now it grows drugs much more than it used to grow and produce when taliban was ruling over that country... if you want to know what's a muslim country then look at countries that are buying main buildings and streets in london and paris in these times that western countries are suffering from recession - 5 months ago
Answerer SilentG, firstly you're an idiot, having said that Afghanistan was a MUSLIM FUNDAMENTALIST country before we invaded. Now girls can actually go to school with a whole bunch of other "horrible" things. Show me a stat of this drug claim? So what now you want to use Dubai as an example of a muslim country? Theyre just buying up what they can and making themselves a tourist attraction before their oil runs out. If not for oil nobody would bother with those people and theyd still be usin swords - 5 months ago

I could write a dissertation on this but I'm going to keep it simple

I don't trust them

I don't want to be anywhere near them

I don't agree with their antiquated, mysoginstic and nonsensical "religion"

and until they learn the value of human life, I don't want anyone I care for near the borders of their countries, mosques, neighborhoods, etc.

They aren't evil but I really don't seem them as people I want to have anything to do with, at all.

Question Asker All and all a standerd Redneck answer.....open your F-ing mind - 5 months ago
Answerer Really now? Wow, last time I checked, I didn't know that having respect for women and valuing human life made me a redneck.....feel free to stay at the jarkata ritz next time you are over there, oh that's right it just got blown up.....AGAIN, because people from free countries who weren't muslim were staying in a hotel in a muslim country. Yeah stop being an ass and learn how to respect the informed opinions of others. - 5 months ago
Question Asker Soooo when Amarican Soldiers murder innocent civiaians in Iraq its that "valuing human life?".....(there are 100's of videos on youtube)...or when they raped the 14 yearold girl and other young girls is that "Respecting woman"...... hmmm Evil exists on both sides.....so stop following the bias bullsh*t on the T.V and think for yourself for once....and stop judgeing the group for the actions of individuals.... - 5 months ago
Question Asker Oh and for the record....ever since the war began in 2003 over 180,000 innocent Iraqis have been killed by Amarican troops.....(Google it...I did) which means Amarican troops have killed way more innocent people then most of the Terriost Groups put together since 2001....think about that too...I'm not saying that Amaricas army is evil I'm just makeing a point - 5 months ago
Answerer Which is why I think we should pull out, let them blow each other up and let them stay in third world poverty, I don't mind. But when they come over here and start killing us because we aren't muslim and we don't follow their ways, yeah that's when we go over there. Maybe by making our prescence known, they will think twice before trying to blow up anymore cities. We aren't going to agree and frankly I don't care so I've given my opinion and it won't change. - 5 months ago
Question Asker Once again a standerd redneck answer..... - 5 months ago

katiesmuff I totally agree with my friend from Alabama! We didn't choose to go to war in Iraq, but we are damn sure going to make the world a bit safer from the extreamists, and sadly in war innocent people die much like in our World Trade Center. - 4 months ago

"Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But God knoweth, and ye know not (2:216)."
"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them: for God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful (9:5)."

"If you have suffered defeat, so did the enemy. We [god] alternate these vicissitudes among mankind so that Allah may know the true believers and choose martyrs from among you ...that He may test the faithful and annihilate the infidels. Did you suppose that you would enter Paradise before Allah has proved the men who fought for him...?" Another translation reads, "140: If you suffer hardship, the enemy also suffers the same hardship. We alternate the days of victory and defeat among the people. GOD thus distinguishes the true believers, and blesses some of you with martyrdom. GOD dislikes injustice. 141: GOD thus toughens those who believe and humiliates the disbelievers. 3:142: Do you expect to enter Paradise without GOD distinguishing those among you who strive, and without distinguishing those who are steadfast?

I'm not just picking on Islam, the Bible contains a lot of violence alogn with other horrid acts.

Chrisitanity though can be argued as being less violent, as: Jesus, the central figure of Chrsitiantiy and accepted by trinitarians as God in the the flesh, could be said to be a pacifist and never advocated violence. "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword." Of course msot Chrsitians today overwhelimigly believe in the idea of just war. Also, while Christianity has its share of blood on its hands, there are far fewer Christian extrmeists than Muslim extremeists. There is an occasional wacko who bombs an abortion clinic but that act usually gets condmend by most other Christians, where as violent terrorist acts by muslims are fotend praised by the majority in many muslim nations.

Bottom Line: I think that consceince should override what any scripture says. Many times the best adherents of any faith are the ones that can push fundamentals aside.
