Me, no. I know I know...I'm pregnant and I'm one of the highest risk people. But I don't work, and the past 5 years I have worked in customer service during flu season and never gotten even more than a mild cold. And in my 22 years I have never had the flu or the flu shot. I take extreme precautions every year, and already eat very, very healthy. I have also found plenty of research to back up that they won't give babies under the age of 6 months the vaccine...so what makes it ok for unborn children to have it? For me, it's not worth the risk. And doctor's who are PUSHING people to get the H1N1 shot are saying that the H1N1 is a milder case of the flu. And yes, pregnant women have died, but many that have already had other medical problems before. I am protecting me and my child in my own way. They have also not tested the vaccine on pregnant women. That is a fact and my husband, who wants me to get it, even found research of it when trying to convince me. Now he's not so convinced.
Anyways, I'd like to hear why you aren't getting it (please don't debate me or my situation only your own).
I'm not getting it because it's another version of the seasonal flu. The swine flu can be beaten easily with rest, water, and the immune system. Plus taking vitamin c can help you fight it. ( if you're into herbal remedies, take elderberry, licorice root, and echinacea/goldenseal.)
Besides, anyone who knows biology knows that the swine flu wouldn't hurt you. It's people who overreact and take the vaccine die from it.
I'm not getting it because I'm very healthy and I don't want to feed into this stupid hyped up flu. If I get the swine flu I have no doubt that I'll get over it in one or two days. Just wash your hands, drink water, and you'll be fine.
DONT GET IT! I heard the government put some nasty stuff in there such as animal blood, fetus blood, and other chemicals not good for the human body. also there was some girl who took it and is now permanently damaged for the rest of her life! they have news clips of her on youtube.
I don't have any plans to do so, because there are other people out there who need it more than me. I know it's a gamble, but so is life. I just pray to god that I don't get it. I just got over the cold and I thought at first when I was coming down with it, it might be something worse, but it wasn't. Point is, I think the elderly and children over the age of six months need it more than I do.
no I will not be getting it, and if you try to force me expect the fight of your life, because I'll be fighting for me life. I have seen the history of the drug, and will not risk my life because the CDC says it's safe...Now. Go look at the past, it killed hundreds, it's not a random anomaly it's fact. I'll take my changes of catching it rather injecting myself with it. I take precautions, as you do.
So no, I will not. And if the government makes it mandatory I'll go into hiding.
Yes I am. My mother is a nurse who works at a mental hospital where 4 patients on her floor currently have it and are kept separate from the rest of the population right now. Also, I'm seeing a surprising and scary number of instances locally as an employee of the Allegheny County Health Department.
Wow - the information in the States must be very different than what we hear in Canada. Canada Health took much longer to test and approve the vaccine here and people were really p*ssed it took so long to get. I got the shot because I am immuno-suppressed and any little thing I get could kill me! The shot is free here in Canada and people have been lining up for 6+ hours to get it. I figured I have to pick my battles - sometimes the risk from the shot is so much less than the alternative it only makes sense to get it. I also got the regular flu vaccine and the pnuemo vaccine - again both free where I live.
i am getting it because it is better to be safe then sorry also I am working in the emergency medical field and it is just best to protect myself.
99% chance says I am fine.
did you noe for every vaccination there is a antivaccination group. there are people who think you do not need any vaccinations because you risk the miniscule chance of things going wrong.
as a preggo if you get swine flu you risk losing ur baby but if you get regular flu you also risk losing ur baby if you don't get the shot stay healthy keep ur immune system strong
alot of the comments here are not factual u shud do further research outside of this site and don't just read the negative stuff cuz if you are going to do that then it is not even worth researching
I asked that you not debate my situation. I have done my research thank you and was just interested in what others had to say for THEMSELVES and not ME. I know the risks and I am protecting my child in my way. - 24 days ago
I'm not getting it.. they are rushing it way too much... I don't think it's safe yet... and I'm already not sold on vaccination. So I'm not taking it for a cold that I likely will not get, and if I do, then I'll get over it, like most people do... and if I die... well shucks! I died... haha It was my time... ;) No but honestly, I think drug companies are gonna make a FORTUNE off of this vaccine and they really have not tested it enough...and they are pushing it way too much. I'm glad you're not getting it... especially for your unborn child.
I didn't plan to initially (I never get the flu vaccine because I have a fear of needles), but I've changed my mind. I don't have the best immune system out there--I get the flu almost every year. Plus, viruses tend to spread around college campuses fairly easily, and the majority of people who are diagnosed with H1N1 are under 25. I have plenty of factors working against me, basically.
Scientists didn't just throw a vaccine together within the past year, it was developed back in the '70s after there was a swine flue outbreak at Fort Dix in New Jersey. My mom knows a researcher who helped develop the initial vaccine (and was one of the first people to test it), and she's strongly advised my mom to get both the seasonal and swine flu vaccines. As far as people being disabled after receiving the vaccine goes, that's a risk you take when receiving any injection, it's not specific to this one, and it's a rare occurrence. I understand being nervous as a pregnant woman, but I'm willing to take my chances.
My parents are probably going to make me get it lol. I don't really want to though. I've only ever had the flu once, and that was this year after I got vaccinated =/
I will not get it, and neither will my kid's if the get a shot it will only be the the regular flu shot. I have also read up on it, and it's not safe but everyone has there own say on it. I have already had the swine flu it hard on ya, but it just like the flu but I say just alittle bit harder on the body. The main reason I'm or my family's isn't getting it plain and simple its not safe.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner and just like the last year and the year before, you will most likely spend it with your family. And just like everyone else, you have a crazy uncle or an...
