so my boyfriend went to the doctor and was told him that he had the h1n1 virus. they gave him some medicine and said he could have died if left untreated.
but I've been hearing a lot of stories that really scare me to believe that my boyfriend can die

so if anyone knows how likely is it that you'll survive h1n1.
whats some things he can do t get better. please help me to understand this on whether its serious or just like the flu.

Update: wow. thanks everyone, its really made me feel better about this h1n1 thing.
now I'm not so worried he'll die or something. :D    26 days ago

It is not too much to worry about,

As long as you treat like it like you would normal Flu , Rest well and all should be ok,

People with Underlying an illness ,especially concerning those with breathing problems and asthma should be extra carefull, Also eat well and take Vitamins (especially if you are not eating well)

But as long as your immune system is not low you should be ok just treating it like a normal Flu virus ,

Good Luck to all that are fighting it off, Yes the media may have created a lot of fuss but it can be life threatning, so it is good as people are being more cautious as they should be.

Its just a flu virus that's blown WAAAAAY out of proportion. Its not that bad. He's not going to die. You actually really don't need to go to the hospital for it either. Only old people and babies are the ones at risk of death. So taking care of them is a must.

i don't understand why this is getting so much attn
when there are SO many other influenzas out there
and there is also cancer; I mean cancer is untreatable
why isn't there much rage about cancer anymore?

i think the world just needs a reason to be scared
because if people don't fear then they do crazy things as in bad

JustDance Cuz its actually a global pandemic?
maybe because it targets primarily kids and old people, I'm sure if you were a parent, you would be concerned if ur kid got this. If ur kid had cancer, that's a different story. You can't "catch" cancer. Its not contagious. swine flu just happens to be a pretty intense flu, so intense it can kill which it has. Cancer has been around for a LONG time. H1N1 just became popular very recently.

There are so many reasons... The world needs a reason to fear so it can survive. - 26 days ago
Answerer Thank you president justdance

but cancer can do whatever it wants,
and how do you know I'm not a parent?
i could be a parent but my mind is focused on other important things
i understand its killing people but so MANY other influenza kill as well
im just waiting till this dies down

BornAgain Thats absolute rubbish ofcourse Cancer is treatable ! Cancer teatment are amazingly accurate now and people are treated with less and less side affects as reserch goes on and treatment are developed,

Why you think it is not treatable is beyond me. - 26 days ago
Answerer I never said it wasn't treatable boragain take it easy
it can just mutate in to what ever it feels like

It depends on what kind of person you are. If your in bad condition I sugest you start moving those legs of yours, but you should not be to layed back if you're in a good condition. If you have a seriously ill, you should worry, stay in and try to avoid to much contact with other peapole.

If you feel sick you should not runt to the hospital eather, cheack your symptoms and see if they match with H1N1. It's very stupid to go to the hostpital if you're not sick, it's a big chance you get infected.

I recommend you to get vaccinated.

during world war The Spanish flu killed a fue hundred of peapole in the first wave, but during the next wave, 50 million peapole died all over the world! and those rumors that you will steril and get canser if you get vaccinated are all a load of crap.

Don't worry, it's just a variant of the seasonal flu we all get.

Just treat it like the normal flu with a lot of water and a lot of rest.

So you don't have to worry about your boyfriend, vaccines kill more people than the virus itself does. He'll be fine.

I had H1N1 a couple weeks back. It pretty much sucked. That being said, my doctor never sensationalized my symptoms. You certainly CAN die from H1N1 given the right set or circumstances.

If your boyfriend seems like he's getting better and then regresses back into being ill or if he appears to be getting pneumonia... make sure he sees the doctor again. That's when symptoms appear to pose the gravest danger.

I'm pretty sure its like the regular flu but its a different strand. Most likely it won't kill you if you have a good immune system and you don't have pre-existing problems. I know a couple people that have had it and they are fine now. Not sure if this really helps though. I hope things turn out ok for you.

Well I had it and I got treated for it as simple as that.

i was freaking out in the beginning that it could be it and I would die (was during my summer vacation too lol)

so I went to the doctor cause I had all the symptoms and , he checked for everything and told me there is nothing to worry about and even if you have it its no big deal its just like any other flu. I refused to do a blood test and urine test cause there was no use for it since he said I have it and its no big deal.. I DID NOT want to waste my time peeing, id rather enjoy the last days of my life lol

He actually told me something that is very important, The only people who would die or get really sick from and should be extremely carefull are people with: heart conditions, Asthma or any kind of difficulty breathing...

The doctor actually told me that uneducated people are the one ones to freak out about each flu that comes up (since I don't have neither a heart condition or asthma)..and he made me feel like a jackass...

So I was sick for 2 to 3 weeks actually but I was okay after the first week I just had some of the symptoms during the other two weeks..

now what you need to do is ,make sure that he drinks hot liquids ,medicine and be there for him.

Hunnn, He won't die. It's just the flu, but for some it takes a larger toll. He's in his teen, apparently.. and the doctor said, he could've died, and never believe stories..

All he needs to do, is rest. Lots of liquids, and sleep, have him bundle up and sweat, he need yo sweat all the bad bacteria out, he'll make it through right away.

I had it a few weeks ago, and I am GREAT! lol. It's not that big of a deal, promise!

Unless your boyfriend is either very old, very young, or has an extremely weak immune system, you shouldn't worry that much. It's just like the regular flu, which, by the way, people die from too. Just make him get lots of sleep and orange juice. Believe me, I just had it. I'm thirteen, therefore probably weaker than your boyfriend, and I didn't have any medicine other than cough drops. I'm fine now. So it's not that big of a deal.

It's just like any other flu. It's just more contagious, I'm pretty sure.
My brother had it, and plenty of people at my school had it already.
There aren't many deaths that have occurred.
If you're so scared about it why don't you look at the news? Like CNN?

Most people don't die from H1N1... only pregnant women and elderly people are mostly at risk... yes it's a little bit more serious than the flu, but as long as your boyfriend rests a lot, he will be fine! I know a few people who have had it... they said it sucked, they stayed home and rested for a week (no public contact) and now they are totally fine! Just try not to get it k? or spread it around... even if you don't get it, you may be carrying it...
Don't worry! :)

people that have died have mostly all had a ore-existing problem. I know a few people that had it, stayed home for a week or so from work, and passed it like any other flu. he's just going to have to stay home until he gets through it.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. It's basically just like the regular flu. And just like the regular flu, people can die from it, but it's usually people with weakened immune systems, and older people. I know tons of people who have had it, and they are fine. Just tell your boyfriend to get some rest and stay hydrated just like if he had the regular flu.
