Having visited other countries in my lifetime, I feel that the US only feels that it's influential, when in reality it's doesn't quite have the impact that most people here believe. Historically the Europeans have blazed the trails artistically - with music, art, fashion, and literature. They have more realistic views of sexuality - and educate their youth properly. Sure we got Hollywood, most most countries have caught up talent-wise with the movie industry. Economically our country seems to be just consumers. We buy up cheap products designed else where, and manufactured else where. Our cars, electronics and technology are rarely successful when competing with other countries. Money talks, and with the dollar free falling in value for who knows how long, in time our dollars will end up only whispering in the world economy. The US is ranked very low education-wise, our youth does not seemed concerned with catching up to the rest of the world in math or science. Most foreigners who come to the US for secondary education return home with their knowledge. We're not the first country with a minority leader, and we have yet to allow a woman to be in charge. I don't think the US is most influential, I think the US is most watched, as the rest of the world is curious to see where we will end up. At times, like a never-ending bad soap opera. (Go bubble boy!) So, I voted B) no.
Wait. what?? what do you mean this moment in time? - 25 days ago

At this moment in time, meaning, the United States has not always been the most influential country in the world, nor will it remain the most influential country. the U.S. just happens to be the most influential country currently. - 25 days ago

But it depends on the category I guess, in terms of new technology and gadgetry, Japan is probably the most influential. in terms of language and media, the US is. in terms of automobiles Germany or Japan. in terms of food, China, Italy, McDonalds. - 25 days ago
Ok. now in terms of supply and demand of goods and services? "recession." - 25 days ago

In terms of supply and demand, we are the consumers; the east is the supplier. so in that respect, we have a lot to do with world economy. but culturally speaking, while I do think Americans contribute, I don't think we contribute in a good way. - 25 days ago
Yes, without a doubt, after WWII ended, the United States and the Soviet Union were the 2 main superpowers, and when the Cold War ended in 1991 because the USSR collapsed, that left the United States the only and still current, remaining superpower. A lot of people say that China might have a more powerful military than the U.S. right now, but still the United States is the most financially powerful Country.
It depends on what kind of influence you are talking about. After reading the question, I immediately thought about cultural influences. We are definitely the most influential country as far as culture goes. Cultural leveling is occuring and the people of other countries act more like us. Who would have thought that some people in the Middle East would ever enjoy listening to Metallica?
Depends if you mean economically, politically, militarily, or indirectly, influential.
Of those, I would suggest that the United States is the most militarily influential, and probably the most politically influential (if not #1 in this category, I think we're moving back towards it).
For economic influence, China is tops. For indirect influence in the world, I think volatile countries such as Iran or North Korea are at the top of the list. They're influential simply because of their unpredictability and martyr-type attitude.
I voted yes, but looking at it more closely, the US is actually enormously dependent on Chinese production and credit -- without the former its consumer market would collapse, and without the latter its public budget. On the other hand no other country has such a low threshold to intervene and meddle in the domestic policies of other sovereign nations, so I guess you could call it the most influential in therms of belligerency.
