I've noticed that people don't read as much as they used to with television and computers they believe that books are "out of date or ancient." most people haven't heard of: THE OUTSIDERS by S.E. Hilton TWISTED by Laurie Halse Anderson I LOVE BETH COPPER by Larry Doyle (these are books I read in school referred to me by other students)
what book of literature do you recommend?
Update: has anyone read "Burned by Ellen hopkins?" i wanna buy it.

I've heard of all of those, but I've only read the Outsiders. I know that Laurie Halse Anderson writes young adult fiction, and I read a couple of her other books when I was younger, but the pace is a little bit off and not challenging enough for me. They're good, but they're the kind of quick reads I'd breeze through between other things, while procrastinating starting another book. If that makes sense. I'll snag one of my mum's James Rollins books off the shelf in those situations as well.
In any case, it's rare to see me without my face buried in a book. I'm constantly reading and there's very little that I enjoy more. I'm often in the middle of two or three or more at a time. It's unfortunate that my favorite bookstore in the world is an hour away, because I don't doubt that if I lived closer, I'd be spending a good deal more of my free time there. Right now I'm reading a 19th century psychology book called Psychopathia Sexualis, which is about the psychology behind sexual deviancy, or at least what they considered sexual deviancy in the 19th century. It seems to have been a very controversial book in its time, haha.
I do believe people don't read as much, but that is only because of new entertainment forms and a shift in culture. However, I recently read a very interesting article that "books will never die", and the proof is the vast numbers of libraries and bookshops and thousands of new books published everyday. I think a lot of man's contemporary anguish comes from the fact that we don't dedicate any time to indulge in leisure and coexist with our inner voices. We live on the run, and avoid any activity that has no "utility". Thus, we've never been more alone with ourselves.
Now what book type of literature would I reccomend? That strongly depends on your preferences, what do you like? fiction, philosofoy, cience fiction, thriller? Let mek now!
I only read magazines because I find books boring and they take too long to read and I get bored very easily. That's why I can read a page of a magazine and then read the rest another time, every time I've tried to read a book I read the first chapter then get bored and never get back to it because I can't keep stopping and starting a book. I've never heard of any of those books either.
I haven't read The Outsiders, but it's a classic, everyone should at least know of it. And I've read a few books by Laurie Halse Anderson because I liked her writing style in Speak, but Catalyst and Twisted don't really stand out in my memory, and I didn't like Prom. I liked Fever 1793 though.
I'm not really into a particular genre. I liked The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb, The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom, Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes...I could name so many. I don't think computers and TV take the place of books at all.
I absolutely loved reading Bram Stoker's Dracula. It's one of my all time favorite novels. I also really enjoyed reading the Interview With a Vampire series, and Howl's Moving Castle. :)
They don't read as much as people used to, mainly as you said, because they have other alternatives for entertainment. That doesn't mean there are not plenty of readers out there! I read voraciously, and I love bookstores. That's the best place to meet other bibliophiles, too.
As for recs, well, I read just about everything, although I've been really into Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett lately, as well as the cheesier historical mysteries that have been popping up everywhere. Can't help it. I also have a silly love for young adult fiction, and have been re-reading the Artemis Fowl series.
I love Neil Gaiman. =] He's one of my favorite authors, and I've collected ALMOST all of his books and short stories over the years. Which is your favorite? I haven't read his collaboration with Terry Pratchett yet, but I think my mum said she was planning to buy it at some point, because she's a big fan of Terry Pratchett. - 25 days ago

Favorite would have to be "Good Omens," merely because it has them both. - 16 days ago

I read magazines that's about it. I have heard of The Outsiders but I haven't read it, haven't heard of the other books though. I liked "A Rose for Emily" when I was in school.
