I've never understood this quote. What does it mean? If you honestly loved an individual wouldn't you fight with your whole heart to keep them. Letting go just doesn't make sense.
A situation that happened to me would probably be a great example. So I was going out with my best friend's sister, we had been dating and I had actually loved her since before we started dating because I'd known her for so long. She came up to me one day because obviously her brother wasn't thrilled about us going out and she was depressed telling me about how he treats her like crap. They had had a really close bond and I realized I was causing her untold amounts of pain so even though I loved her I told her she could break up with me because it was hurting her. We talked for an hour later and she did indeed break up with me, and yes it was the wort pain I'd ever felt but because I loved her I had to let her go. Get it now?
I'm in this situation right now. There's this girl that I never dated but have asked out a long time ago. Just recently I found her again but it turns out that she has had a boyfriend for the last 1 and a half years. I can't say if I love her because I hardly know her but I do know that I like her so much that I am willing to wait until she makes the decision to break up with her boyfriend for me. I can't force her to make the decision because if I was in the same position she is now then I would want the choice to leave something good for something better. So in relation to the question, if I like this girl so much then YES I will let her go and wait to see what she decides.
Well. The saying is commonly misunderstood because to a lot of people it sounds more like ''if you love someone, let them go'' as in if something goes wrong, or if they're not yours immediately, let them leave and be gone, as if you don't care. It's not saying to be aloof and not try, because love is all about trying. The saying is for type of situation of your certain someone being interested in someone else, and you wanting them to stay with you because you love them. So the saying basically means, if you really LOVE them, then you'll let them go and be with that person because even if it's ultimately painful for you, you want to see them happy.
It's an unfair situation to be in, and it's painful as fuuck, but that's what the saying pertains to ;)
You want your loved one to stay because he or she loves you. Not because you have made it impossible for your loved one to leave you. You fight to give your loved one every possible reason to stay, but also the freedom to leave. And if they stay, you know they truly love you. I think that's the meaning, more or less. Seems that way to me, anyway.
Ok, if someone you love deeply used to say thy loved you and such then started taking it back and going on about how they wanted to love someone and...
