What Guys Said

The problems I can see is guys ego. For example if a girl was good enough to play Football (American Football not soccer) she would probably get pounded by the other team. I could see the same thing in soccer, baseball, baseball, rugby and any other contact sport (baseball not really contact but when you have a ball whizzing at your head then it contact becomes a reality). It's an ego thing that guys are stronger than girls. While I know there are girls stronger than me (not many I would bet) I would bet that it puts a damper on a guys ego. So to improve it they will probably gang up on a girl playing those sports. Then she will probably get special treatment because of it (which isn't totally out of line in those circumstances) but it would have a negative out look on the girl.

Really it would take a girl who can stand up for herself put up with allot of abuse to get to the top in these sports w/men. If it is swimming, golf, or tennis which requires little physical activity with the opposing individual then I think there is no problem what so ever. Logical or not when you have the testosterone pumping through your veins nothing becomes logical.

soxfan94 I agree...and I think it would be similar to when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball. It would have to be someone with tons of resilience, but there is also the team aspect of it..although some of his teammates resented him, most of them rallied around him and struck back on the other team when they spiked him and threw at him. I think it would be harder to "gang up" on the girl than it seems, because of the retaliation of the team. - 7 months ago

I personally don't understand why there isn't gender diversity in major sports. If a girl is talented enough to compete at that level, and is agreeable that no one will take it easy on her, then there should be no problem. If a player is feeling ashamed because he tackled a girl or checked her into the boards, then he is insulting her by implying that she was lying when she said that she was willing to play the game as tough as necessary. I don't think a lot of girls are cut out for it, but some definitely are and it's a shame that they're segregated into their own separate league.

Personally, I think it is better to keep them separated. If you can. Girls should be allowed to play sports. If there isn't a girls team available and there isn't enough support to form a girls team than girls should be allowed to try out. As far as individual events that can be team based, such as wrestling I am not a fan of it. Not because of the groping or because the thought that girls are weaker(not that I believe that) but because guys wrestling against girls are put into an awkward spot where if they lose they feel humiliated. If a girl loses to a guy its kinda like well he should win but if he loses he is weak.

Also. In sports where there are no guys teams, specifically in high school, like gymnastics and field hockey guys aren't allowed to play on the team.

soxfan94 Guys are actually allowed to try out for those teams, or demand that a parallel men's team be created. But, no guys really feel like fighting a constitutional lawsuit against a school to demand that they be allowed to wear a skirt and play field hockey. Wouldn't be very good for popularity I would imagine. - 7 months ago
Answerer I'm sure guys could ask for alternative clothing if they were on the team. Personally, I am not sure why they wear skirts any way other than tradition. Guys don't go out for the teams because it would be frowned upon and like you said wouldn't be very good for popularity.... my point being girls who do the typical male only sports get praised while guys would be laughed at. - 7 months ago

I think it can happen.

It's happened before with a female goal on a male hockey team.

I don't have much experience with other sports, but I like playing tennis with guys. I played in high school and wasn't great, but I still hit harder than most recreational players. I usually hit soft in warm ups and then hit everything as hard as I can once the game starts. I'm not so good that I always win, but man do I get some great looks the first time I rip one past them.

My current boyfriend beats me because he's really fast and covers the court well, but I sure make him work for it.

I don't think it's a good idea for competitive contact sports, but for running, swimming, and the like I say go for it.
