I don't know what your take on the Bible is, but it says that to be absent from the body is to be present with Christ. Also, when Jesus was on the cross, two other men were being crucified as well. One repented and trusted Jesus as his only means of salvation right then and there, and when he did so, Jesus told that man that he would be with Him in paradise "tonight."
