depends on the context of your conversation with this guy.or did you just randomly overhear it?
i think by saying "i skip the obvious women" he's meaning he doesn't go for girls that just put themselves out there and throw all their cards on the table if you know what I mean.maybe he prefers the more girl next door, simple, funny and nice type girls that are easy to talk to and fun to spend time with
