I don't really wanna ask my parents about this or ask for their advice so I'm coming to all of you.
How can I find something I wanna major in? Also can you major in more then one thing?
Also I'm not the brightest light bulb in the group but I was wondering is their any way to get smarter w/o to much time to devote to studying?
Also I'm really poor with no way to get finical help that I know of .
little history: I've been home schooled and waiting for my high school diploma to be mailed to me,also I'm not very social But I really want to be and really want to stick to a Real college not one online like my parents suggested >.>. and about me: I'm an okay anime artist,i like to invent stuff, write stories,Take photos and I'm really good with designing stuff and good with getting stuff together for partys and I'm good at math angles and detective work *finding missing stuff/pets and junk for people I know*. if this can help any of you suggest majors. please do so.
I know things like this can seem intimidating- getting into school, where to go, what to do, etc, but however, the intimidating thing about it is, is that it's unfamiliar to you right now. And once you get familiar with it, it won't be so bad. Then you get to liking it, and then it's over, lol.
Getting into school is something a lot of people worry about, financially. There are also a lot of things that provide help. Like applying for financial aid, loans, scholarships, work-study, and things like that. But you got to look them up, and apply for them.
Plus, I would like to know if you have any job experience? That's something to consider with relating to college and becoming more sociable.
And you don't have to be the brightest bulb, you just got to work smarter and not harder, and you'll be alright, trust me.
One thing, did you choose for home school, or your parents?
My parents chose to home school me. I had no say so in the matter... - 6 months ago

I would say one thing that helped me about choosing a school was calling different schools office's of admission's and setting up appointments for a tour of the school, or just walking around the campuses with a friend. Some offer tours, some don't. But you get a lot of info, first hand, this way. And the tour guide is usually just an older college student. I hung out in one tour guides dorm room, lol. But it definately helped.
And a lot of people don't decide on a major right away... - 6 months ago

Some people pick a major, then they take a class that totally makes them change their mind on what they want to major in. And you can have a major, a major and a minor study, a double-major, and then it gets more complicated. But it depends on what suits you best, for what you want to achieve. - 6 months ago
You can have a double major, you can have a minor, and you can even have a double major AND a minor if you want. It would be hard work though.
As far as paying for tuition goes, you can apply for financial aid and look for scholarships. FastWeb.com has tons of scholarships. Also, tuition at state schools is lower than it is at private schools. For example, I live in Connecticut, so if I went to UConn, my tuition would be a little over $9,000 a year. But I go to a private school (in CT) where my tuition is about $30,000 a year. Huge difference (UConn doesn't have my major).
Collegeboard.com has tons of information about schools and majors, so I suggest you look there. It's not easy choosing a major. You have to find something you really like. You're good at a lot of things, but what do you see yourself doing in the future? If you're really unsure, you can have an undeclared major. That way, you'll get to take a bunch of different classes and see what you like best.
If you're really so poor then you should definitely apply for federal aid. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and you can apply for aid online. It can be time consuming and you need a LOT of info. Plus since you live at home and your age and all that, I am pretty positive you will need to provide info on your parents too. Something you can't really do without telling them since like generally you need copies of their tax returns to fill out the application. But doing so is a VERY good idea. You can get federal grant money to go to school if you qualify. Which is you are "poor" you probably will. You may even qualify for extra if you are really really poor. This is basically FREE MONEY for you to go to school. You never have to pay it back as long as you actually use it for school. Odds are, it won't be enough to pay for it all but it will help. Look into scholarships too. Then there are also work-study programs and loans too.
Yes you can major in more than one thing, but it involves more work obviously. You can also choose to "minor" in something else, which involves a little less work than 2 majors but not quite as much as double majors. If you don't know for sure what you want to major in, most schools will let you go "undeclared" or "undecided" for a couple years. If you're planning to go to a standard "university" as opposed to like a technically school or design school, etc. then there is usually a "core curriculum" that all students have to take. Basic classes just like you take in high school. English, math, science, etc. That will buy you a little more time. But of course with so much interest in anime, photography, designing, etc. you may want to look into a more specialized design/art school. Just keep in mind that they are usually more expensive and could be more limiting. My sister wanted to do art and looked at art schools but in the end she ended up at a state university getting an Art degree (double majored with Journalism) there. That allowed her more flexibility with what she was studying and if she had changed her mind part way through it wouldn't be the end of the world. Many of her classes could have been "useless" if she had changed to something like physics obviously, but some of her stuff still would count and she wouldn't have to change schools.
If you pick a state school you can focus on your core classes while still trying to figure out the major you want. If you start to get an idea (or maybe 3 or 4 you can't choose from) you can take a class or 2 in that direction and see how you like it. Do you know for sure what school you want? That's important too. Once you have a school picked, and even more so after you get in, you can find out a LOT of this stuff and get a LOT of help from counselors and other people who work at the school.
As for picking a specific major. I can't help you there. That's been enough of a problem for myself, lol.
Find something that you want to study further. Maybe interior design, photography, party planner (I don't know the major name), criminal justice, maybe?
You can double major. It takes more work, but it can be done.
I don't know of any way to "get smarter" without a lot of work. Many colleges offer tutoring services.
There are many ways of financing college. If you want to go, there is a way. You might want to contact the school(s) you are interested in and ask them to give you information about financial aid. You may also want to see if they have an office of student affairs or something. They should be able to answer any specifics you may have.
