I think getting a job and saving is a good idea, like goodlookinggeek said, but the problem with a job is sometimes it's hard to get out of it when your ready to start your other business. That's why I won't get a side job as I'm starting my wedding planning service. Because I know I'll get comfortable with the paycheck. What I'm doing is starting with some friends and charging lesser amounts to do the planning that way I can get experience, they are patient as I'm building and I earn some money to get things really off the ground.
