I've been playing rock band lately (vocalist) and I pass the songs fine, but I realize that after only a couple of songs I feel strained, like my lungs aren't big enough to hold the air for long, you get what I mean? I have no idea why, why I feel like I'm straining to sing certain notes after only a few songs. thanks so much, I appreciate any opinions; comments; TIPS you guys have! thanks

If you sing, you have to sing all the way down to your feet.

That's a quote from a singer from along time ago. I forget which one.

But the point is, you can't do your singing in your throat, that will wear you down. You need to work on using your lungs and diaphragm to push the air out while you hit your notes.

I had the same problem when I did karaoke one night, and then I heard that quote. The next time I used my lungs and diaphragm, and it felt better and I lasted awhile longer. Then I tried literally singing all the way down to my feet. At which point I did not feel any strain anywhere, and lasted a very long time.

Since I'm not a singer, I don't really know how to explain this. Hopefully you get the idea.

ok so WaitingAtTheDoor is completely right. When you sing rock or showtunes or anything like that, there is usually belting involved. You need to take deep breaths. To sustain a note without straining your throat you really have to work your stomach. Like if your singing short sticatto notes, then you will be able to feel your stomach bouncing. Like Bubbles said, do excersizes to help you. But anyway don't ignore your throat straining cause this could lead to serious damage. You could try asking any other vocalists for advice or maybe take vocal lessons. hope I helped.

WaitingAtTheDoor is probably right. You have to sing from deep in your chest, not from your throat.
Incidentally I learned that in cheer leading lol. Because we had to cheer really loudly for a really long time without straining our voices.
So singing from deep in your lungs would probably help that :]
