I can't say that this will cheer you up but you are the master of yourself, you have to realize that.
Our percieved reality is just a creation of what we think and how we think is heavily influenced by our emotions. Have you ever wondered why you felt sad when there isn't a logical answer and yet you feel sad?
It is actually something that I am working on. Sometimes I get anxiety over minor things and it starts to build up untill I tell myself to STOP. I think about the situation, I think about all the times this same event made me feel anxiety or sad, but then I think about all the times I was able to relax and let it go.
The situation is only a memory, the event passed and it now only lives in your imagination(whatever the event/events where) and it is the "memory" of the event that keeps you feeling low, try to remember it without feelings and little by little you will gain mastery over yourself.
I practice what I preace, sometimes things sneak up on me, make me feel low BUT they don't last very long. The more it happens, the better I get at defeating the programming of anxiety/sadness. You can feel whatever you want just not when you want, it takes time and practice.
I guess to answer your question I must say: In order to cheer myself up, I dive deep into my mind and emotions and pick what I want to feel. The more I do it, the faster I can do it. Only you can control your reality because after all, you have been controlling it all along and letting things get to you/or rather you getting to yourself.
Not sure how you are going to take this but I am only trying to put the idea in your minds eye so you can consider it. It really works for me and I only hope I explained it clearly enough.
Hanging out with good friends that make me laugh would get rid of any bad thoughts rolling around my mind. Failing that, listening to some nice immersive music does wonders too while just spacing out on a comfy chair or on my bed.
Whatever works for you is the key here, do something you like doing that stops you thinking about other things. :)
Definitely. Different things do work for each person - myself, I love listening to The Shins when I'm feeling glum. Sometimes I like to immerse myself in the sadness til it passes. - 6 months ago
That is actually a very interesting way of dealing with it. You dive into the feeling of sadness and burn it out or actually, you are having a battle with it.
I listen to my favorite songs on my iPod. Another thing that really helps is playing tennis or riding on my bike. The exercise helps me clear my head, and hitting a few tennis balls helps me get out my aggression if I'm angry. =]
Definitely reading. It helps me escape the stress/sadness for a while. And listening to any of my music. Maybe hanging out with friends if I can, they can always make me smile :] Orr, I write my feelings/thoughts down so it's like a weight has been lifted off my chest.
For me, I usually feel better after watchin my Dave Chappelle and Martin DVDs. They make me laugh soo hard (even tho I've seen the a million times) I forget about the bad day I've had or am having. :)
