If either of you(referring males and females) heard that a 17 year old decided to jump over two fences to get into a restricted area of the Batman ride to retrieve his hat that had fallen during his ride and ended up getting decapitated in retrieving it (*breaths in*) what would be your reaction? One more thing, this is a true story, it happened in Georgia, USA and the kid was part of a church group. He had a friend with him but he survived.
Please select an option in the pole as well.
Note: I am conducting this question and survey to see if there is a difference to how the sexes react to the same incident.
Well, he should have followed the signs (yes), but that doesn't mean that he deserved it. It was a ridiculously dumb move, but we don't know if the hat had any sentimental value to the boy. He was simply too stupid to not think of asking the attendant to help him retrieve the hat.
I read about that. The saddest accidents are the ones where the riders don't do anything to their fault, though. Like the girl who got both of her legs amputated at six flags because of improper placement of coaster cabling.
yea read about that awhile back. my reaction initially was man, that's a lot of work for a hat, two fences. but then I was thinking 17, male, impulsive. Kinda simple reasoning. not too smart in the end but I understand. I lost my hat and I want to go get it. man what a rush if I could jump over both fences and get it while the ride is going. man that's a better thrill then all these rides at this park. I get it. too bad he died, but I understand.
Obviously it was the boys fault for going into a restricted area and when the ride was in motion. Still, I feel sorry for his family and we're talking a 17 year old boy, those age kids do stupid things and don't think before they act. He should have forgot about the hat and bought a new one, or if he really wanted it, ask the ride attendant, or any other park worker for assistance.
I think that's sad, but if my hat fell off when I was on a ride and I had to climb over two fences and go into a restricted area to get it, screw it, I'll just get another hat. It wasn't worth it.
Don't want to sound cold, but he's dumb! I feel sorry for the guy, and for the family and friends who are now suffering from this. But, he had other ways to take care of it. He's 17 years old. He knew it would be dangerous. But he did it anyway. Maybe he was trying to look "tough" or something. And just as nusoulmusic says, just because something tragic happened to someone, doesn't mean we should be nice about it. The park, and other amusement parks should take this as a lesson, and improve security/safety, for kids like him.
I feel sorry that it happened but still, he had jumped TWO fences to get into an area that was restricted for a reason. He had enough warning signs to know to turn around.
NOPE!!!! I think some people feel that everyone should be nice when someone dies. It's like feeling sorry for someone who overdosed or heroin - you feel bad for his/her family, but the truth is that person did it to his/herself. - 5 months ago
Seriously, he thought, "oh, I lost my hat. Let me ignore these signs, and retrieve this hat myself, even though there are fences all around." Really? This was a better option than letting the park officials get it for him?
If he followed the signs and told the workers, the workers could probably retrieve it for him; they might have to shut off the roller coaster, so they could get it after the people on it are done.
My deepest condolences go out for that kid's family, BUT it was his fault. He was 17, which probably meant he could read, and I'm sure he knew better. It is unfortunate, but it wasn't really a "freak accident." There were risks. He took them and paid the consequences.
