i had to put this question on here, because it is something that amazes me. that people can still actually believe that god created us as humans and created life on earth in general. even though there is extensive scientific knowledge to dispute it.

this site seems to have a massive religious backing and I figure it is the perfect place to have this argument.

i obviously believe in evolution, and am not religious at all. I would go to church for a marriage, funeral or a christening and that is it.

I went to a private anglican school which had chapel service every week and was obviously religious. they never forced us to believe in god, and most people didnt. going to chapel was an excuse to chat with other girls from the boarding house and was never really about god for most of us.

Which theory do you think is the best to explaining how we arrived on this planet. do you think both theories should be taught at school? in america there has been a big push by religious organisations to promote intelligent design as a credible reason for how we became what we are. I think this is wrong and I am very passionate about it! so don't post an answer if you can't handle criticism.

Update: too many intense responses to read lol I am tired!    5 months ago

Update: thank you everyone for your posts, I respect all of your opinions, and I'm sorry for sounding so arrogant. it was more to get everyone fired up to debate the topic! thanks everyone! go science :-p    5 months ago

The best evidence of the existence of a supernatural force (a source of energy that does not abide by the rules of physics) is the fact that something cannot be created out of nothing. What reaction created the first form of energy which then created all the matter we have today. A reaction without an action, it cannot and will not ever be explained scientifically. Therefore, a supernatural force (otherwise known as god) created everything we see today, it is the only logical explanation. Haha logic deriving from the supernatural, I like this theory.

Personally I believe evolution should be taught in schools since it is without a doubt how we as humans came to be. Although, they should definitely not deny any form of god people may believe in. In conclusion, science should be taught in schools and religion should be taught in church.

Here is a non-intense easy answer/something to thimk about: according to the scientific theory a big bang started the world. Well how did the big bag come into existance? In my opinion this is evidence of a higher power.

The Bible says God created the world in 7 days, the bible also says (2nd Peter chapter 3 verse 8) but do not forget this one thing dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. I think intelligent design gives evidence of how we arrived on this panet. Problem is people think they know more than God and don't study his words and find out what that evidence is. They just believe everything on the discovery channel and at public schools LOL

Also, if humans are descended from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?

Nobody can force you to believe in God, he did not make us into puppets. It's all about faith, not having God appear to you on your 18th birhday and say yes I'm real pease beleive in me. You have little faith. Anyways, your poll, I felt, was talking down to Christians and very patronizing so I did not participate.

You are like doubting Thomas "Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side.

I will not believe."John 20:25 NASB Thomas too, was asking for scientific evidence of Jesus. I guess he was a scientist at heart.

I find that most who say they cannot believe are actually unwilling to believe. Scripture tells us that on the Day of the Lord’ return, every knee will bow before
him and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God
the Father (Philippians 2:10-11). Then there will be those who will be forced to
confess what they never believed.I hoped this gave a little insight God bless you

Wow, people in both camps are wrong. I agree with Einstein he said "The more I study science, the more I believe in God." I think people are wrong to try and separate everything into two separate groups. There are some of us who view science and God going hand in hand. Also religion is man-made, so it shouldn't be the base of this dispute. I wonder if God is laughing right now at all of us and how we just can't get it.

I believe it's both. I think that God created everyone and the animals too but I believe that we have evolved from that form to our current form based on Darwin's theory.

i honestly don't support either theories. evolution, maybe to some extent. but science is theory, not proof. that's what I think anyway.

You don't sound arrogant at all! Everything you just said made me gain so much respect for you haha. Seriously though, it would take a complete moron to not be able to recognize the obvious signs that THIS IS A WORK OF SCIENCE. Even the most religious scientists agree. So any idiot who voted option B can kiss my evolved ass!

I believe in God, but I also believe in evolution. I don't really think that the bible is God's work, but I do think that he exists. I used to be atheist but now I think that there is a God out there somewhere, but no one, not even Christians fully understands him. I like to think of him as an unseen world soul and while he is not physically there, God is what unites humans and separates them from other animals. Make sense?
That's my opinion. What's yours?

Neither.

We were created through a design for a giant computer named Earth whose sole purpose is to figure out the question to the answer to everything, designed by what we think of as mice.

i have thought about this and organized religion, to me, was a way for the males of the community to gain power over others. look at how women were treated. they weren't allowed to learn how to read/write except for the rich (most likely to just get money)
way back in colonial times, the people had to believe whatever the priest was telling them out of the bible since most couldn't read. priests could have made up anything to keep the power going. look at the crusades. a war over religious disputes. come on, religion has caused nothing but war and greed
and those who choose to follow blindy into religion need to open their eyes and really think about it.
i think that people use religion as a crutch to justify the wrong in their life. for instance, a druggie goes to church and says that jesus has saved them from sin. who is to say that just by going to anyone who would have listened to them could have helped them. its not god who helps people. people who have a good conscience help others. if mankind as mankind and not the people of god could just ditch this organized religion hoopla, then I think there would be a better chance for us all.
sure the idea of a greater being may have helped in old times, but this is now and religion is an idea of the past

Actually, there is no one more real than God. He is the only reason you and I exist. I would be lying to say, I don't care what you believe, because I do care. I pray and hope from the bottom of my heart that you will come to know the love of Christ, which you cannot understand with your mere mind and that some day I will see you in heaven. There is life after death. You chose where you want to be for eternity. God is the only One you can trust in, He will never ever let you down, He changed my life, He restored me, gave me joy, gave me hope. He loves you till the end. Just believe it. Your life will finally make sense and you will be changed forever.

Question Asker So many people say these kind of things.. and I mean it when I say it is great to hear that your lives have been so touched by him. I'm sure you are very healthy and totally awesome people; but I could never believe or have faith in something that I didn't know for sure existed... I'm sorry - 4 months ago
Answerer How can you deny that he exists? Just listen to your heart for once. Deep down inside you know that there is a higher cause than just to live life and then die. But you decide what you want in life. No one can force you to believe. But.... If I could decide for you I would :) - 4 months ago
