Hi everyone. I am trying this life make over thing. And I need a hobby. I am into things like, billiards, watching movies, dancing, painting, helping people (problems), eating out.
I don't even know if they are considered hobbies?
I am just curious on how everyone else discovered their own hobby, what their hobbies are, and how they've included it in their daily lives - do you do your hobby everyday? occasionally? are you taking classes for it?
I would really appreciate some inputs, so I can discover my own. I'm currently going through personal issues/depression, and I think this will help.
I have asked some people here, and some said, surfing, gaming (internet), diving. They said it helps them escape life, problems. And I just really need to find my own escape. Thank you all in advance.

I've tried all kinds of things to escape depression/issues. And what I found out is that, you may heard this a million times before, avoiding your problems won't help in the long run. They will come back and hit you harder in the end. So you'll need to deal with it asap. But depression is a very tricky thing to deal with because depression attacks our only tool or defense against it: our mind. So it may not be a bad idea to just TEMPORARILY escape and avoid the negative feelings and get our mind out of the gutter.

Best thing for me to do is take a day off. Go out somewhere with lots of trees, lake, water, nature, etc, and just lay out my mat there and sleep/relax. I lay there to think through my problems and relax my mind. After that, I call up my most happy/cheerful friends and go out to do some bowling. Yep. bowling, it's one of those sports that encourages supportive touching(high fives), laughter, cheers, good emotions, good stuff. Once I do my fun activities for some times, perhaps a few weeks, and my mind is better, I go back to my problems and think them through. You really don't need any fancy hobbies. Just do things that will cheer YOU up. So try what I've suggested and let me know. Best of luck

my hobby is reading. that is the biggest escape because you jump into someone else's life and story. when I get really into a book I block everything else out, my mom talking included lol. I have read since I was a teeny tiny little thing. And I have been reading since then. But I would say reading for you.

Good for you. Here are my hobbies:

Gym: it's like therapy. I hate it sometimes but afterwards I feel incredible. I also get better sleep. I try to change it up from swimming/eliptical/bike/rowing/classes

Photography: I love photography. I hike around in the wilderness because I find that it helps. I plug in some new age/chillout music and just spend hours admiring nature and all it's beauty or taking pictures of my fiance and family.

Movies: I love to rent movies that I have never heard about. I have run across some amazing movies that not a lot of people know about.

Cooking: I love cooking. I get creative and sometimes I just suck. The best thing to do is get rid of the recipe books. Read them to get ideas but don't go verbatim.

Question Asker Your hobbies are interesting! They are things I'v been doing on occasionally do, but never knew it could be someone's hobby. It's probably my hobby too, I just haven't realized it. Like, I like cooking, too :) Thanks - 5 months ago

This may not help because I am feeling the same way. Someone asked me what my passion was, what I would pick to do over anything. The people at work are like fishing, tennis, etc. I have found that I really don't know. I love my dogs and I love to shop but how shallow is all that,
I will keep an eye on this post for help too.
Taking a class or volunteering in something you really like or interested in would be the way to go. People say just go do what intrest you and you will find it. WELL what am I truly intrested in? anyway just a comment sorry I can not help! Good luck!
