Ok so I'm 5'9 and about 135.so I'm pretty sure I'm not fat. I like to go out and drink on weekends and I've noticed I've gained a little weight as a result of this. My face is a little be fullier and my stomach is not as flat as it once was. I just want to work out to correct these 2 things.
I have a workout routine that I came up with myself.
I run/walk 2 miles.I run and if I get tired I walk a little till I'm ok to run again since I haven't been working out till lately I'm still not able to go out and run 2 miles straight out. After I get done running I come home and do some arm exercises with 5 lb. weights (keep in mind I'm pretty small) I was told in gym class in high school that using smaller weights and doing repitition is better for ya so that's what I do since I just want muscle tone) I do that for about 15 minutes. Next I do crunches from side to side and just regular sit ups for about 15 minutes also then I stretch and call it good.
So my ? is what can I add to or do differently in this work out to make it better and more productive. I really want my stomach flat and my face to go back to being less full.HELP! maybe I'm over reacting and I'm not even close to fat but I want to keep my body toned and not flubby.
well first off the exercises seem fine. a helpful way to go all out when exercising is have a buddy when you walk/run. if you want to push your self more I would put leg weights on or body weights. when your doing 5 lb weights- if you don't feel like you exercised much in your arms(dont feel any difference) I would go a few punds more. when doing sit ups I sometimes like to hold on to a weight(the donut looking ones). I would watch what you consume also try not to eat greasy foods and I would only drink water, milk, or orange juice. drinking water during and before exercises are very important. hope I helped a bit
Lay off the alcohol. Ever hear the term 'beer belly'? There's a reason behind it.beer (and other alcoholic beverages) have an ingredient that causes your stomach to bloat. So no matter what you do, and how toned/thin you get, that area of your body will always have a pooch. This happened to my friend, she's gained weight from drinking every weekend and she has that beer gut that doesn't look attractive at all. She's not fat by any means, but she's definitely bigger than she used to be and she didn't have a belly at all before and now she does. So, really, try and cool it with the drinking and keep doing what you're doing. Also I weigh the same as you and I'm 5'7 and look thin so I'm sure you're pretty skinny as it is considering you're taller than me.
The most important things are 1) Stick to exercise 2) keep a healthy diet 3) lay off the drinking, alcohol has many calories. Steadiness is what counts!
You should be able to run 2 miles without walking. It's really not that much. So I guess I'd focus on your cardio. Do your run/walk thing, but increase the distance as much as possible. And keep at it. Try to get to the point where you can run 6 miles at a 9 minute pace. That's not blazing fast or anything, but I really doubt that anyone who can do this looks flabby at all.
Your workout sounds great! You might want to do crunches on an exercise ball tho. Because you move up and backwards instead of just up and down, you work more of the area. You will notice a difference the first time you do them.
What I do is, when I get to the gym, I'll do a mile on the elliptical trainer thing, on the weight loss program which has 2 different resistances that are supposed to be good for my age and weight. Then, I'll walk on the treadmill as a cool down for about 15 minutes at about 3.5 mph. After that I'll do different weights for different muscle groups depending on the day. Some days I'll work on my legs, some days my arms, but I use the machines at my gym for each muscle group. Lately, I've been working on my legs. And then, as a finale, I'll do the "Captain's Chair". You stand on these pegs and put your arms on the arm rests, and hold yourself up and lift your legs up like a sit up only vertical and in reverse. It takes a lot of strength to do that one.
