I am expecting my period. It usually comes around the 20th but sometimes it can come the 15th or so. Well I am having my friend over this weekend (the 15th) to go swimming. She said I can go swimming anyway because the water will stop the flow because she did it. But it is my own private pool and I don't want any blood in it. I know the best thing to do is use a tampon but I am terrified. I don't even know where to start. I know I will put it in the wrong hole, or do it wrong and give my self that shock sndrome or something. Someone please help!
Update: Also can I practice putting it in when I don't have my period?

Update: I know water only stops it from coming but it doesn't stop it when you actually have it. If I swam everyday until then would it stop it?

I find the tampoons are like miracle workers! You never feel it and its much more comfy than feelin like ur wearin a diaper. All you have to do is practice, if you can't find the hole use ur finger to find it, mirrors are helpful to. Just make sure you keep track of time don't leave them in longer than 6-8 hrs, aslong as you don't fall asleep w/them in like at nite you won't get it. I don't think you can stop it unless you take pills. Just the way of life. I recommend tampoons over pads tho, and if there not ur thing you can just go back, just give it a try, good luck.
omg I have tampons trouble to I don't use them anymore! I have super heavy flow and a smal,l crotch and it hurts to put big ones in so I just wear pads. but once when I was in 8th grade I put 2 in ontop of each other and didn't realise! that's the way to get the shock syndrome********
How can you possibly put it in the wrong hole? You only have two. And I'm fairly sure you would know if you were trying to put it up your ass.
You're not going to get TSS unless you put a heavy tampon in when you don't need a heavy one (like if your blood flow is really light), or if you leave a tampon in for a very long time (it's recommended you change a tampon after about four hours).
Yes you can practice putting it in. I would recommend putting one leg up on the toilet, and use a mirror to help yourself. You insert the tampon at a 45 degree angle. and make sure it goes in all the way, until just the string is left.
You'll know if you did it right when you sit down or walk around. You literally will not be able to feel it inside you.
Tampons can be incredible lifesavers. Just practice when you feel up to it, you'll get the hang of it eventually.
