I am tired of being where I am, I feel stuck in this "situation". I've been trying to get a job for some time now and it doesn't seem like I can get one so I've been thinking about joininng the military for the Gi bill, for training, a chance to do something and just to have something to put on a resume among other reasons. So what I am wondering and asking is what branch of the military should I join, knowing that I refuse to kill or harm another human being or animal or anything, I hope to be a physchiatrist one day, I am a slow reader and typer, I'd like to get in better shape than I am (I'm not fat or anything just fairly inactive) I don't want to travel too much or too far "clearly I won't get much say it's just prefered" I live in Southern California. So any advice, for which branch of military and what position to try to get and how to get it and where do I sign up and how, would be very appreciated.
Update: So I talked to a close real life friend a bit about this and so far I'm leaning to coast guard or air force.

well if you refuse to harm or kill anyone/thing then the marines and army is basically out of the question. Navy would be iffy. Anyone can get deployed to anywhere no matter who you are .my dad is an admiral and just left for iraq two weeks ago and my boyfriend is in the air force and left for Korea about a month ago.it all depends on what you want to do. you would have less of a chance of being deployed if you were in the airforce, but you would also need to be technical. Its all a really big decision and I hope you think about it hard! keep in mind that they can have you living anywhere in the world. don't think that you are still gunna be able to live near home!
I don't want to live near home... and I know that I won't have any say as to where I go, that's why I said clearly, but I figured one of them probab;y has to move around less than the others. And yes, I knw it's a huge decision the military will own me and everything I do. I'm really hear to find out about information that I can't really find out myself by searching the net, such as if I joined the Air force would I need any technicl skills or would they train me, what's the training like. - 4 months ago

With the air force you do a 6 week boot camp then they train you for your particular skill. no, you don't really have to have previous skills for it because they do all the training. the length of your training school depends on which skills you are doing....and you have somewhat of a say where you go. you are able to put in a request for your top five bases and you will most likely get one of them. most people who are new go overseas for a year to start with. hope that helped a little more! - 4 months ago
Question Asker
What kind of postions are there and what about housing and living expenses and pay and such? And thank you that does help a lot =) - 4 months ago

For the air force at least ..during bootcamp and training you pay nothing...during bootcamp you basically live in a big room with bunk beds and training you live in suite style dorm rooms with a roommate. when you are stationed overseas most of the time you will live in suite style dorms as well and the living and eating expenses are taken out of your check unless of course you have a family in which case you would live in a house. I honestly don't know about pay...i only know all this from my bf - 4 months ago

National Guard. You do get to travel, but its the safest job there is. You guard Area 51, or direct civilians in crisis, like a hurricane or some disaster. My brother signed up with National Guard, but I think he did it for the guns. So he decided Army. He's going to work with the K9's and teach the Iraq police some stuff ( I donno what exactly). But National Guard is the safest and best way not to die. Go online and do research, or ask other military guys.
Well that's kind of why I'm here is to find out from people who are actually in or have been in the military, and I'm not really worried about diying, just hurting another person. - 4 months ago

You don't kill people in National Guard. You just guard. Its the most boring job ( military police) that you can get in the mililtary. - 4 months ago
I'd say go to school to be a physchiatrist, it's what you want right? Yah, you might be feeling stuck right now but I mean you'll be making something of yourself. You'll feel better to know that when your in school learning what you want. If you're not into killing let alone harming someone, what's the point of war, to get yelled at to be "strong" so you could go against people that haven't personally done anything to you. I don't know I just have a different view of war. So anyway to get a job is easy, well I don't know how many applications you have gone through, but I know it sucks to turn in allot of them and never get a reply back from any of them. But I mean you can start by volunteering in something you like to do, seriously get yourself involved in the hospital ( just a suggestion) and just work yourself up, from there, you won't be payed but you'll have something to do hopefully in something you'll enjoy. Then at least you'll have something to put in your applications. Trust me, I volunteered allot at the YMCA back when I was on probation, and well after I was off probation, I really liked to just go there when I had nothing better to do, long story short I was better off there. So when I turned 16 the manager there offered me a job.
Ok, that really doesn't help I need money so I can't really volunteer, I cannot go to college right now, all of that sounds good on paper, but I need money to do anything, and college? not at the moment I can't, and I have put in applications all over town got one call and kept calling back and never got them or a response went in there twice and nothing, so that isn't going to happen... I need something and I need it soon if not now... none of that helps me at all, I already know volunteering - 4 months ago
Simple: Air Force: for those who like to work with their heads or electronics that fly. Navy- Nukular tec, some flying and sailng, Army; more or less where those who don't know the branches, or can't go anywhere else Marines: Extremely physicaly built and total jerks (just kidding) They take the hard jobs in the military. Like bombs and some computer technology
