Can someone please explain the new version of this site?

Live Feed is a new feature based on an exsiting one, pretty much. You used to be able to see what other members were up to by browsing their individual profiles one by one. Now instead of having to go thru each and every member's profile to see their recent activities, we have decided to place all of the members' recent activities in one spot only to increase the number of responses they receive and as a result increase interaction among members.

You used to have a section called Notebook, where you could note your favorite users and though the system hasn't notified you of their activities, you could easily click on their user names from your Notebook and could see what they were doing. With the Live Feed, you will be able to see either everyone's or those you are following or you are friends with so you can respond to their new questions sooner, you can comment on their articles faster.

For instance, if you had posted a story before, that story did not get much visibility by other site members unless they have visited your profile page and noticed that you have written a new story, or unless that story was selected as a Featured Article. Now with the Live Activity Feed, other members as well as your followers instantly will see that you have posted a new story and they will read it and comment on it and what not.

The difference between the two Live Feeds, following/friends and everyone? In one feed, you will see everyone's activity. We thought that it could be overwhelming to keep up with every individual entry, so we ended up splitting the activities into two sections, where in the second one, you can see only those activities of members you are following.

And if you are uneasy about someone following your activities, you can block them in your Friends section. Now keep in mind two things if you decide to do this. Someone can still follow your activities such as your questions, answers and stories from your individual profile page even when you block them from following you thru the Live Feed. Furthermore, those members who you block, will not be able to respond to any of your entries such as answering your question, commenting on your answer or your story, or sending you a message. So I would use the block feature with caution. I don't notice the difference besides the live chat.

i guess they wanted to make it better and with requests from other people... I haven't been on that long but I would say this is better then facebook

Hahahaha if someone's following you on this site it means they have the ability to keep track of everything you do here, like from answering questions to writing on walls. Weird eh?
