You need to care about yourself regardless. Even a gorgeous women, who has a lot of confidence issues and loathes herself. She might attract the guys with her looks, but they will most likely separate from her in the end.
just do things for yourself, and find activities you enjoy. Once you are confident and having fun in life without a partner, that's usually when you find someone. Murphy's law strikes again!

What pickup lines do you use to start a conversation with someone you are attracted to?
I don't use "pickup lines" on girls I am attracted to. If I am attracted to her, I try to approach her in a way that is engaging, such as commenting on something related to the current situation. At other times, a simple hi and a smile are my weapon of choice.
How do they typically respond?
Girls mostly respond in a positive way, but there are always the shy or uninterested girls that don't allow me to get past a simple hi.
