I think that our lives have blueprints to how they're supposed to go and the roads we can choose to take are mapped out but our decisions form our fate. That's what I think, how about you?

I believe you control your own destiny. This does not however imply that you can control your day to day events but you can definitely steer the ship towards your goals!

I think we live planned experiences. But we have multiple possible endings and can choose the direction we are headed in.

Even if you don't believe in fate, there are a finite amount of people you'll ever meet in your life, the world won't change much while you are a live, so you will most likely have a set experience with it. So many factors in life are going to be constant. It's the little choices and experiences we choose to remain in that define us in the end I think.

I think that our lives are pre-planned, but although its planned, we don't know what the plan is so it's still up to us to live. Too many things have happened in my life to make me think anything but that my life has a purpose and a destiny - and that's my being a Christian completely aside. I've just had so much happen in life that I can't ignore. Life isn't pointless, and I seriously doubt that it was meant to be slogged through. All life has meaning, and we're meant to find it and live it. That's when you get someone who says they've lived well and have learned from life rather than life learning from them. Those are truly happy people. All that can only happen with a plan in place. If there wasn't, all life would be meaningless.

Ahhh, the old fate versus self-determination debate.

A belief in fate means that you have no control over your life. Even the decisions that you make are fated. Meaning that you really have no control over the decisions that you make. It was already determined. Even if you become aware of an event in your life that is supposed to happen in the future, because of fate there is nothing you can do, no decision that you can make, that will turn aside that event from happening. In fact, a belief in fate, means that every decision you make to avoid it, will bring you to it. Greek mythology covers this subject pretty well.

On the other hand, there is the belief in self-determination. We create our own fate. I tend to believe in this. In consideration of your own life. Every decision that you have made in your life to this point has brought you to where you are now. This is self-determination. Although there are many people, especially those who are living in less than desirable circumstances, who blame their life on uncontrollable events. I think they do this because they don't want to take responsibility for their circumstances. It must be someone else's fault that I'm in this situation. Hence a belief in fate where our lives are determined by outside influences.

Ahhhhh, philosophy. Can blow a few brain cells:)

Question Asker Yes yes lol but instead of looking at it as either black or white, I'm looking at it as grey. I think it's a combination of both, but mostly self-determination. They actually go hand in hand if you think about it lol. There's a force too big to understand and we just don't know what is driving the force lol. Great comment though, it makes sense and is very well thought out. Burning brain cells is good as long it's from thinking lol Thank you =-) - 3 months ago

I think a fate exists with every decision we make. So in a way you can control which fate you choose. People who believed they're fate is planned might be scared of change. But then again who says it wasn't fate that planned for a person to make that decision to change. Lol

My brain has entered into an infinite-philosophical-loop

I think that this is more of a religious question. But you can still I honestly believe that we do have the choice do make decisions, and our actions are based on our decisions. And the decisions we make today affect who we are, and where we go tomorrow.

Answerer Oops, that is supposed to say, "I honestly believe" - 3 months ago
Question Asker Yes it can be a religious question, I was trying to avoid that though to prevent controversy lol and you're absolutely right. It's like Newton's Third Law that states every action has an equal and opposite reaction. - 3 months ago
Answerer But I would think that most people would agree that we have choices and nothing is set in stone. Obviously every atheist believes this. And almost all religious people believe it too. I believe in God, and I believe that He knows everything that happens, but I don't believe that we don't have any control in our life, that everything is already determined and we don't have choices. I think that there might be a few religious people that believe that God controls all our actions, but they're nuts, lol - 3 months ago
Question Asker I second that lol I believe He gave us a free will for a reason and a lot of people that are uber religious that think that God controls every breath they take truly are nuts you're right lol - 3 months ago
Answerer But I agree that some stuff we can control, like what color of socks we wear and all that stuff. But there are other things we can't control that still affect us. I just think it's our job to control the stuff we can control, and make the most of what we have and enjoy life. - 3 months ago

You know this is so funny I was just discussing this question with my mother but really It all depends on how you look at it! There are possibilities in which you can control your own fate like for example you want to become a doctor but you're studying nursing - in that case you can control your fate - you can switch your major to that profession. In a case such as death - if death comes for you - you can't really run away from it - you can't pack your bags and move somewhere else cause death will follow you whatever you go - meaning this fate you cannot change no matter what you do! So basically I think our fate is planned but the roads we take really depends on us! And actually this is a really good example I read this book by Sherrilyn Kenyon called Sins of the Night (I think that's what it was called) and in there I read something very important one of the characters say "something as simple as you're supposed to turn right down a street one day. In your bones you know it, and yet for reasons no one understands, you decide to debunk fate and go left. Now instead of meeting the spouse of your dreams and having a house full of kids, you get flattened by an ice-cream truck and spend the next five years in physical therapy recovering from the injuries; or worse, you die from it. And all because you exercised free will and turned the opposite way on a whim. " So see this is what I think some people say that books are written just for people who like to read but without books we really wouldn't know what life is really all about - cause really books are taken from reality! So in my opinion on fate in some cases we definitely can control our fate!

Question Asker Wow I'm going to Barnes and Noble and getting that book! Thank you! I love that line and now want to read it because I love to read it's nice to hear from someone that has the same appreciation for books as I do. Many kudos! - 3 months ago
Answerer Thank you! It's actually a great book but its more of a vampire to myth and romance book and this book is a collection of dark-hunter novels - her books are so great and if you want to read them trust me you wouldn't be able to put her books even down for a second but if you want to start reading them I suggest start reading from Fantasy Lover or you can visit her site www. Sherrilynkenyon. Com to read them in order - if you want to read them good for you because they really teach you about life! - 3 months ago
