Ok so, both my parents get migraines,. BAD.
my mother used to have to take shots for hers and she still has to take medication. I'm not to sure about my dad, I don't really talk to him. But I want to know if it hereditary because I get really bad headaches a lot, some have even lasted up to two weeks. I want to know if Ill continue to get them throughout my life.

And I know it doesn't help that I have a slight case of insomnia. Well I believe I do because I can't fall asleep and if I do manage to, then ill wake up every few minutes. I'm supposed to see a doctor about that soon.

But anywho does anyone on here have migraines and or know anything about them?

Yes, migraines are hereditary. My mom suffers from them severely and I got that from her.

It gets so bad that they last for days and I have to be taken to the emergency room for a shot and pills. Then they leave me in observation a few hours. It's terrible. If you suffer from migraines there is no cure, you will get them throughout your whole life. Best thing you can do is talk to your doctor so he'll prescribe you migraine medication. I keep that in my house and whenever I go to the doctor I ask him for a prescription so I never run out. Yes, you can find Advil for migraines and others but nothing beats prescription medication, it's the strongest and most effective.

There is research suggesting that they are indeed hereditary. I know both my parents had them BAD and I've gotten them since I was six, but my brother never got them. BE CAREFUL with migraines! Talk to a doctor and find out if they really are migraines.

If they are, two weeks of migranes could be extraordianrally dangerous. During a migraine the blood vessel in your brain expand. This pushes against the sides of your skull and that`s why it hurts (there are actually no nerve ending IN your brain). Should you countinue with these two week migranes, the blood vessels could lose their elastisity. That could lead to strokes or aneurysms. Be on the look out both of my parents had strokes.

Check for `triggers. ` your insomnia would attribute to that along with alcohol, stress, and even wheat products. Hormones play a part as well. You`re best bet would be to find out if these are indeed migraines and then try and figure out what your triggers are. Caffine constricts blood vessels so coffee, chocolate, and soda pop such as coca-cola and pepsi (they are high in caffeine) work great for me. Just watch out for caffine addiction.

Best of luck to you!

Answerer BTW a 'trigger' is something that contributes to a migraine. Just wanted to clear that up. - 2 months ago

What I'm about tell you, I have heard from other people. I do not know if it is a fact. I have heard that if you have a terrible migraine then when you have sex it lessons almost immediately. Something about how the heart beats faster and allows better blood flow throughout the body. Your hormones have something to do with it too but I wasn't paying attention to that part after I heard the word "sex".

You definitely need to see a doctor. My mom has hypoglycemia, and she has to eat small snacks or meals throughout the day. If she goes a while without eating, she gets them really bad. It could be a number of different things. Try eating more constantly and seeing if that helps. But with any kind of head problems, you definitely should go see a doctor!
