Has anybody read the book Apocalypse 2012 by Lawrence E. Joseph? And if so you did then by all means you know that on December 21, 2012 we're all supposed to wake up and meet death. Now I don't know how many of you believe in this but I would just like to get your opinions on this and see if so you believe in this what do you plan on doing for the next five years?
There are also other main events that are supposed to happen to us including a lot of mother nature involved like if any of you watched the discovery channel on April 10 (which was a month ago - yea late I know) but it showed what we know as Yellowstone National Park - scientists know it as a super volcano. They made a movie on how it will react and what will actually happen to earth if it erupts - not including other 6 super volcanoes. What do you think of that too? I mean that is a catastrophic disaster and supposedly it will erupt in about 10 years or so as I hear.
The religious leaders will have a field day about this and say god is punishing us all (not offending anyone) but lets forget all that but I just want to get people's opinions and it would be nice to know what people out there think of such things! You can say whatever you like - thanks!
I checked into this a bit more and found this helpful article: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/2007-03-27-maya-2012_n.htm
Basically it says that: 1) The Mayans created a calendar which could accurately track the period of 5,126 years and then needed to restart at zero. 2) The completion of one of these "long cycles" was a huge celebratory event for the Mayans. 3) There is no evidence that the Mayans predicted anything disastrous or cataclyismic on this day. 4) 12-21-2112 marks the winter solstice and the first time in 26,000 years that the sun will be lined up in exactly the middle of the milky way (at 11:11 no less) 5) Some people believe that this will cause a "disruption in whatever energy we have been receiving from the center of the milky way" or that this will cause a revolution of consciousness, fueled by "indigenous" feelings and "psychotropic drugs."
Sounds pretty crazy to me to think that the basis for civilization was the supposed energy we were receiving from some arbitrary point in the galaxy. Once the sun blocks those "civilization beams", look out, we're all gonna kill each other! Haha, I can't believe people are serious about this stuff. And then the notion that psychotropic drugs will alter our consciousness worldwide on that exact day..so I guess that means we'll all involuntarily take LSD? As if we couldn't stop ourselves?
I think people need to reign themselves into reality a little bit. Try believing in global warming before you jump straight to apocalyptic prophesies.
True but still I really don't know not going to argue with you but didn't the Mayans predicted the year 2012 I mean that's what it all comes down to - people going nuts worldwide trying to stop whatever is going to cause this - well those who believe it! - A month ago

They didn't "predict" anything. They simply created a really accurate calendar and declared that the end of its accuracy (5,126 years later.. the year 2012) would be a celebratory occasion. It would be similar to us deciding to throw a really big party when the official cesium atom (which we use to create time measurements) finally decays completely. Then we'd have to start over. No disasters, no cataclysms. Just a new cycle of the calendar. - A month ago

Huh ok I'll be sure to look that up! - A month ago
Given how many dozen times the world has been prophesied (or forecast, or calculated, or 'proven') to end to date, I'm more than skeptical of this. Add my experience working with natural phenomena simulators (fluid flow, weather, continental drift, etc), and the idea of someone predicting the end of the world to the day, that far in advance, is laughable. We can't even get the next day's weather straight.
(Though, that would be a hilarious newscast: "And tomorrow, we'll have rain, until 12:13, at which point, we shall all cease to be.....and it will continue to rain for the rest of the week.")
What would I do, if I was absolutely sure that the world was going 'poof'? Other than not putting money in for retirement, not much that I wasn't already planning. (I might shift them around a bit, of course) Carpe diem, after all; if you're living well, you shouldn't be carrying that many regrets in the first place.
The apocalypse predictions are based on a Mayan calendar which, although strikingly precise in predicting things such as stellar movements, have been shown to be unreliable as an indicator of events. It's akin to Nostradamus...every time anything he said is even remotely similar to a world event, people assume he was a prophet. Tons of things he said never came true, and the ones that supposedly did are often quite a stretch.
The Yellowstone issue is much more pertinent, and if I lived anywhere west of Michigan, I would be scared out of my mind about it, haha.
But if I had reliable knowledge that the world was going to end in a year, I would focus on being much more open about my thoughts and feelings. If I knew I only had a week or a day left, I'd focus on ACTING on those thoughts and feelings! Haha.
I'd tell them they're crazy, then carry on like normal. I do believe the world will end one day, but not on a day that the entire world is expecting it.
I never read that, but I know the Mayan calendar is pretty accurate and it predicts that the world will end on December 21, 2012.
I've watched shows about volcanoes and hurricanes and all the other natural disasters that are supposed to kill us all in the future, and I guess those things scare me as I watch the shows, but it really doesn't affect me much after that. I mean, we have no idea what's going to happen for us tomorrow let alone five years from now. I personally think I'm more likely to die of cancer than a natural disaster.
Whether the world ends in 2012 or not, we won't know until it happens, and I don't think anyone should live their life with the expectation that they'll die on that day; you can't be happy if you're just waiting for your death like that.
They had a tv show about this the other night something about crystal skulls, and how they need to find all 13 of them and if they don't the world will end on 12-21-12 my sons b-day is 12-31 he would be just turning 12 and knowing that he might not be here or anyone It scares me but I find it hard to believe, I mean they said the world was supposed to end in 2000 and we are still here right. And on the tv show that aired the other night it said if we keep living like this and not taking care of the earth we are going to be in big trouble, doesn't anyone get it. why do you think we have this weird weather in the first place, yea it might end or it might be a new begging for us. But remember this stuff has happened in the past too. Just prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.
