Well, literally, it means that he wants to go out and see a movie with you. In "guy world".. if I may put it that way, it means that he really likes you and wants to get to know you better, and it things go well, you might become a match.
He probably likes you a lot. Going to the movies isn't the best way to get to know someone, but it makes a fun first date. It's the most common thing guys will ask you out to when it's your first time hanging out together.

Describe your ideal first date; Where do you go? What do you wear? How does the date end?
My ideal first date would be to take a girl to do somethings she's never done before. Whether it be Ice Skating or Sky Diving, something that exciting that she won't forget. Id probably just wear blue jeans and a t-shirt, first dates with me will never be a dress up type thing. The date ends with atleast a smile on our faces, I can't promise anything more.
Afterwards..what will your date know about you?
I am extremely sarcastic and easy going. I hope we would both learn a lot about each other, but I can't tell you everything about me because what would we talk about on our second date?
