Does anyone think that a female would have several disadvantages as President?
The president of the United States is the Commander-in-Chief -- the person who commands the armed forces -- the person who has to defend our country and occasionally kick butt overseas to keep rogue nations in check. Woman do not usually have an innate ability to defend (or kick butt) -- they're usually more nurturing and "soft". And what about their moods and cycles? -- this seems like it would be a very difficult thing to try and manage whilst trying to tackle all of our country's (and the worlds) problems.
Update: I think most people believe that NOT ALL men are aggressive nor are ALL women nurturing, but denying that there are fundamental differences between men and women's brains, seems a little naive.

Update: Men and women are PHYSIOLOGICALLY different and this fact alone effects what hormones are produced, which in turn effects the brain's chemical and architectural composition.

Update: In other words, you may not be able to predict personalities(you may not be able to tell if Hillary really does have more balls than Bill) but you may be able to predict that she may process and evaluate information differently from her male counterparts.

Update: How differently(? ) -- or to what degree is the difference a cause-for-concern(? ) -- is the topic of this discussion.

The president of the United States does not have to kick butt. They send people to do that. Women have just as much of an ability to defend themselves as a man would. Sure, women are known as "softer," but that does not mean that we don't know how to solve conflicts and keep a country running.
What about the proven fact that women are smarter than men? And the fact that not only do women have mood cycles, but so do men! There are more things to take into consideration than just the fact that we might not be as physically strong and bullheaded as the typical man. I think an educated woman could run this country just as well as an educated man.
I am not against Hillary as our president; as a matter of fact, I voted for her in the primary. But saying women are proven smarter than men means you are a moron. I believe there is no difference in the intelligence of men or women. - 2 months ago

No, there is. I did a research paper about it a few years ago. Of course not ALL women are smarter than ALL men, but there are statistics that back up that statement using SAT/ACT scores, IQs, and voluntary tests. - 2 months ago
Just because you wrote a paper on Men vs Women's intelligence doesn't make you an authority on the subject. Also how do you explain the fact that men dominate (by a huge margin) in careers that require a high intelligence, such as engineering, doctors, scientists, and computer scientists? I'm still NOT saying men have more intelligence. But saying women as a whole are more intelligent than men is still crap. - 2 months ago
I think it's always scary when we get a new president just because we're never really sure how they're going to do. But I think the very 1st female president (if we ever get one) will definitely have more challenges in front of her, just because she will have to deal with a lot of peoples skepticisms and assumptions. But I think it will be the same for the 1st black or other minority president too.
Ok seriously, that post is so filled with stereotypes. Why are men considered "kick butt" and women considered "soft". That's incredibly old fashioned and sexist. And not all women are "nurturing" and "soft", that's how women are portrayed in the medie. Sure. Some women are, but all? Absolutely not.
In regards to their "moods" and "cycles", oh yes, all women are just so emotional and don't have enough controll over themselves. Come on now. I'm pretty sure that Hillary Clinton can put aside those things to run a country. And men have moods to, but I don't think anyone running a country is going to let minor things like those affect their decisions about the You. S. These assumptions are filled with sexist stereotypes, and I don't think the country needs a kick ass man to defend the country. It needs a kick ass person.
I don't have any problem with a female president but Hilary Clinton would not make the best female president. There are other smart women out there that I would cast a vote for but not another Clinton. Sorry. :)
Haha, well I know that some of the people I know are worried about a woman president pms-ing, but I wouldn't be too worried. I also know that there would be many who would object to it though, which leads me to believe that if we had a female president (or any president who didn't fit status quo) they would most likely be assassinated in the first term...
We need to stop thinking one of us is better than the other. Men or women. Women or men. We can be good at the same things. We need to stop stereotyping each other. Women can cook and raise kids. So can men. Men can work hard all day and know things about cars, and so can women. We aren't THAT different. A female president would be nice for a change, just to prove that men aren't the only ones who can do the job.
I was really just asking if anyone thought that the things that make women so WONDERFULLY DIFFERENT from men (their innate kindness, motherly-instinct, compassion etc. ) -- while invaluable at times, could also make them weaker as a commander-in-chief? - 4 months ago

You're generalizing women again. Not evey women has those qualities. Some women are cruel and don't have a sensitive bone in their body. We're not all soft, and we're not all meant to be mothers. There's no job that is meant for just one gender. - 4 months ago

Also, not all men are tough and the leader type. You know what I mean? I'm not afraid of having a female president because I know she will definitely do the job better than the joke we have right now. - 4 months ago
I totally agree we base everything on gender yet we don't see that gender has nothing to do with it-gender is just a statement based on a person that's all it is - 4 months ago
Question Asker
Isn't it an accurate "generalization" that almost ALL women get very irritable and uncomfortable during their cycle? Are there any women here that can claim that their periods have NEVER affected their job performance or moods? - 4 months ago

I would be one of those people who doesn't, and plenty of women know how to control it. - 4 months ago
I COMPLETELY disagree, a president JUST to prove to men that they are the same? No! That's a HORRIBLE reason! Maybe because she's a good president but not to use her as an "i told you so" - 4 months ago

Chillaxitwnthappen, that's not exactly what I meant. I'm not in favor of Hillary becoming president if that's what you thought. If we have a female president it definitely has to be one who would do a good job. - 4 months ago
No you would think women are soft - I'm actually not soft at all - if I have to kick ass I'll do it I'm not afraid and I won't hide in my closet like bush does! I mean we would think - especially men oh a woman what does she know but if you think about it what did bush do for this country - answer: nothing! He took this country down - you know that in some parts of NYC they are excepting euros already instead of dollars - this is ridiculous. We one of the most richest countries in the world are a laughing stock across the world because of a president like bush! There was actually a guy that I have discussed this topic with - I mean all he could say can you imagine having a president who's either black or a woman - because apparently he thinks that we would be the laughing stock of the world - what about now did anyone think of that? The thing also is the fact that right now - the election isn't based on politics at all - I mean think about it a black man and a white woman - it's a minority election! We are all gonna vote based on the color of skin and gender! And just so you know - those that are racists against a woman becoming a president you do know that in most countries a woman is a president - if not that she's one of the highest senators. And those that are racists against a black men or people whatsoever then just screw you (excuse the language) cause you know what racism shouldn't even exist and we're like idiots who make fun of people based on their color of skin. There are women who are presidents and you know what hurts the most that women worldwide - forget worldwide women across America are dissing Hillary - are you all stupid - have you looked at your own gender - I mean hello - instead of agreeing with her - we trample her down yea Obama is great too but come on can you at least not diss her - seriously! Oh and why I think Hillary should be president is because if you think about it her husband has been the president - he knew how to run this country not bush and the thing is Hillary has passion for this country - I think she will make a great president - Obama too but I just don't see that passion in him when he speaks - it's like the only reason he wants to be president is to prove that all black people are worth something - he's saying it like - here we made it this far and we're not stopping - I totally agree with that but if your actually wanting to become a president for those reasons - that's just stupid! I may be wrong but who knows just hopefully the next president will get this country back on its feet. Anyway its your choice so whoever you choose I hope it wasn't based on minority - seriously people choose wisely - like I said if your worrying about becoming the laughing stock of the world take a look around we already are the laughing stock of the world!
I don't think that is why Obama is running at all. He rarely brings up his race in his speeches because he doesn't want to be known as the "black" president. That's like saying that Clinton is running because she wants to be the first "woman" president. - 4 months ago

Sweetie I didn't say that - that's what people around me are saying anyway at least I didn't mean anything by it but that's what people are saying they don't want a woman and they don't want a black man - 4 months ago
"And just so you know - those that are racists against a woman becoming a president you do know that in most countries a woman is a president" Women are not a seperate race from men. I think you mean sexist? - 4 months ago

I think Hillary could have kicked butt! (lol) She seemed like a tough chick! I think it's too bad that she gave up so easily at the end because I would have liked to see what she would have done in office!
I don't have a problem with a Female president, granted she is actually qualified for the job. But if it does happen, I think we will lose a bit of the world's respect. How is a woman who couldn't even keep her husband in check going to keep our country running?
