Well, my parents have always acted as equals, and they managed to produce such well-rounded offspring as myself :]
I really don't know, I've never been in an environment where the male dominated the family; my grandparents weren't like that either. But looking at the girls in my family, I think there are benefits to taking women out of submissive roles. I was always taught to provide for myself instead of relying upon someone else (i.e. a man), and there was always an emphasis on being whoever I wanted to be and striving for success; the thought of changing myself for a guy never seemed like an option to me--if I'm not good enough for someone, there's always someone else. I think the one fallback is that the girls in my family aren't especially interested in relationships. My older cousins all have kids, but they're not married, although they're still with their childrens' fathers. I put my education before relationships. Sure, we all like guys, but our sense of independence gets in the way of that a bit.
All interpersonal relations would change if property came to be held in clan systems instead of a nuclear, usually still somewhat patriarchal, family. - 8 months ago
Matrilieal clans don't mean that women would be bosses. What it would change is the ownership of property; it would require a partially collective system.
1. An ego -- the desire to compete, to conquer & control, to dominate, greed, power cravings ...etc.
2. Survival instincts -- to procreate, to protect oneself from harm, also the seed of fear, jeolousy, possessiveness, to survive at the costs of getting/letting others terminated
3. Emotions -- ranging from postive to negative (from joy/bliss all the way down to depression/despair)
When it comes to which kind of society is healthier, the question is, "Which sex has more/less of these qualities?" My guess is it is more or less the same, i.e. just as good, or bad. :) However, when there is an unbalance of distribution of these factors in one of the genders (can be geographical/i.e.cultural , the answer would be more obvious ---- Go for the gender who practices "Do not to others what you don't want others to do to you". I would opt for whichever gender that can put this into practice, i.e. if human beings want to survive as a species. Too bad this species isn't doing that very well, if you take a look at what it is doing to the planet that gives it a place to survive...
I can't honestly say, cause it's never happened before..
But my guess would be no.
Girls don't deal with stress as well as men do (no offense, if it makes you feel better, guys aren't as good at multi-tasking), so foreign relations might be destroyed quickly.
Although girls would probably be less likely to enter war, a cold war atmosphere would most likely always be in place.
Please, I'd love to debate this with you. Give me your thoughts, and I'll comment back.
The property ownership rules would be completely changed. We can only guess what can devevlop from that change.
Earlier in human history, before the advent of writing I believe, evidence tends to show that most of humanity lived in matrilineal clans. In modern Japan there are survivals of this in the clan traditions. - 8 months ago

But a society governed by women, primarily mothers?
It would be a completely different change in personality, in terms of leaders.
Women are less ambitious. Whether that's a good or bad thing, I can't say.
They tend to be more caring. Which is a good thing, but when leading, can be bad. For example, they might be more hesitant to retaliate against homeland threats.
They are more emotional then men. And in times of need, people need someone to follow, someone to look to for help. - 8 months ago
Question Asker
The change in property ownership doesn't necessarily mean women would be all the leaders, although it would be hard to see them not at least in a position of equality in political affairs.
How could that be worse than what we have in the US now?

That's a good point. Barack Obama sucks. I much rather have Sarah Palin.
I'd say it's a toss up. It could be either be better or worse. I wouldn't think that it would be exactly the same, though. Cause guys and girls have different tendencies. - 8 months ago
