I want to believe that my "significant other" isn't lying to me, but I already know that he's lied in order to hang out with me . I'm not worried about him cheating on me or anything, I know he loves me . What I'm curious about is if he's lying about the fact that he quit smoking . I don't want to be an un-trusting, stalker-like girlfriend . What should I do ? How could I get him to stop lying all together (is that possible ? Would it be too much to ask ? ) ?

Hi, you need to make him understand the precarious situation you find yourself in because of his lying . If he loves you as you pointed out, you could negotiate on something . But make sure you are prepared when you do that, cause generally a negotiation is when something in between is decided of neither your choice nor his - just do double take on this to ensure whatever is negotiated is in your favor . Any gal can do that . Why not you .
As for smoking, really depends on how he understands .
Hi, we lie for survival reasons . To keep out of trouble, to spare the feelings of another, and to present what think others want . If you don't feel he is hurting the relationship, I would look and see where this fib fits in .
