Considering the following options, what would be the most awkward impression on a couple relative to the man. Taller woman, fatter woman, or uglier woman?

Why do we make comments about couples that don't fit the stereotypical partner standards?

Why do we think that it is awkward when a woman is taller than her man? How many inches taller can she be without having people make even a subtle comment?
Should a man always have more body mass than his woman and how much bigger can she be that won't seem awkward?
Why does the woman need to be the more beautiful (trophy) in the couple?

Guys/girls what would you consider acceptable in each of these situations and why?

I think the reason why many of us get negative impression or pick on these "mismatched" couples is because what was taught to us by our environment, family, media, society, etc. If you look at every movie, magazine, comic book, etc, you'd find that the couples in there are almost THE perfect match for one another. The man is usually taller, has more body mass, and is less physically attractive than the woman. In addition, our family and friends do have a way of shaping our selection of mate. At a younger age, friends tend to make fun of each other for doing something that is out of the norm. And when a guy is dating a taller or heavier gal, he's deviating from the norm. No one wants to be picked on and rejected, so they stick to this "norm" or stereotype if you will. Stereotypes imply automatic thinking, I. E. No control. For example, when I see a 7ft 300lbs woman holding hands with a man who's 5ft 100lbs, the first AUTOMATIC thought that comes to my mind is, "whoa! What's up with that? " Then I will become aware of my judgment and reevaluate what I've seen more CONSCIOUSLY, "maybe they see something special in one another, and I am in no position to judge because I am simply not them. "
So I think the problem arise from childhood and how consciously we choose to be. We were born flawed into the world and were contaminated with even more flaws during our childhood. It is up to us in the adult stage to change and rid ourselves of these flaws.

Question Asker I agree. I find myself doing the same thing and feel like I have to keep on retraining my paradigm on this matter. The odd couple could be two, totally cool people that I never knew but I would automatically think that a "perfect" couple was more acceptable and a better match. Thanks! - 6 months ago

I'm confused by your question. All of these situations are acceptable, if it makes the people involved happy. Isn't that what we're all striving for?

Question Asker You are absolutely right - they are all ACCEPTABLE. Nevertheless, society does point out these little differences. So, why do people make comments them? Just looking from the outside - in on our weird stereotypes of what a perfect couple should profile. - 6 months ago
Answerer In that case, id say that people are prone to picking at others because we're insecure, and we know our own faults are at least semi-obvious, so we pick on the really obvious faults of others to distract everyone around us. Just like kindergarten. - 6 months ago
Question Asker Great observation.
So, what would you consider the most "really obvious fault" option from this poll that most will make judgment towards? Thanks! : ) - 6 months ago
Answerer Hahahha
You're really making it necessary that I choose an option from your poll.
There's a ton of socially unacceptable couples out there - but if I'm forced to choose, like I said originally, it's got to be the fat people, how could they not be the most obvious? But what's your point? - 6 months ago
Question Asker Cool, thanks. ; ) - 6 months ago
Answerer But what's your point?
Question Asker I'm not making a point,... I am asking a question. Curiosity on the general publics view, that's all. Not here to make a debate, just wondering what impression people have. - 6 months ago
Answerer Well what spurred this, at least? - 6 months ago
Question Asker Curious, huh? Why don't you make a poll? Maybe I will make a bunch of unnecessary comments to rid myself of answering you. :) :) :) - 6 months ago
Answerer If you went as far as to make me choose an option from your poll, why can't I at least know what's driving you to do so?

I've artificially influenced the results of what could be a highly influential poll, all in the name of knowledge, and this is what you're leaving me with? - 6 months ago

I'm guilty of making a statement such as this before. I saw a guy one time that looked like he could be in a GQ magazine. He was gorgeous! But his wife was extremely obese and not pretty at all, I mean she had greasy hair, bad skin, bad teeth, I just couldn't see what he saw in her. I hate to sound shallow and mean but that's how it was! I also admired him though because although his wife looked like that, whenever an attractive girl walked by, he wouldn't pay attention to her, it was as if his wife was his world. It was actually quite touching. She was one lucky lady.

Being taller or fatter makes the chick seem more man-like, to put it bluntly.

Most acceptable: tall chicks cause they have nice legs
