SO I just found out that my boyfriend was born with a different last name. I saw something that had a different last name on it and it took a minute but he told me that he changed his name because he wanted to disassociate himself from his family because his mother was abusive and his dad didn't deserve it. He told me that its that same name just spelled different and its more Americanized now. What do I think? I told him that I was just worried because I have 3 kids that I have him around and needed to know who he is. He said there is nothing in his background to hide but he wanted his parents to be unable to find him and didn't tell me before because he didn't trust me and that he barely knew me to be telling me his private business and that people he knows or met in his adult life only know of his current last name and that people that he went to high school with know he had a different last name. I saw his social security card an it has his new current last name on it. Just wanted some insight from older mature people.
I've considered this several times myself. I grew up in a evry dysfunctional family which doesn't honestly deserve my participation or emotional involvement.
Looking from your shoes, I can see where you might be concerned.
Does he share stories of antics from high school? Does he talk about old friends? If not perhaps he's hiding something. But if he does, he probably really just doesn't want to deal with his family, and if similar to mine... I can't fault him for that.
Yes he talkes about high school and old friends etc and slowly has been telling me about the stuff with his mom but for someone not to talk to mother is drastic I was thinking DAMN she must of done some sick sh*t to him beat him molest I don't know but changing your name is drastic ya know. - A month ago

Changing your name seems drastic... but it's not like he really changed it that much. You said it was just a different spelling of the same name and not so different, right?
