Yes, you need to work on your relationship at every stage, but even more importantly, you have to approach it with the right mind set. The relationship has to always be your priority. Your partner needs to feel the same.

I am going to use my parents as an example. They are in their late 60's, been married for 44 years. They have always been a team, standing shoulder to shoulder through the tough times. It hasn't always been pretty, but they always chose to do what was best for their marriage. I am envious of their relationship, they often time act like teenagers when they are together, and my sister and I have to tell them to get a room!

By working things out in the beginning, and by staying on top of things in the middle, it looks like there are huge rewards at the end... Like everything in life, it is a journey, and you choose where you'll go.
