ok ladies, this is your chance to explain an unsolved mystery to me. Why do you ladies hate the way we do laundry? we don't separate that colors and all that shit, we just toss it in there, add soap, and let it rock. Every girlfriend I have ever had no matter where she was from, all hated when I did that.i don't understand it? I like putting all the clothes together. It's like a laundry disco party! everyone gets to dance together.the red towels, the blue shirt.they don't care they want rock out together. please give me your thoughts on this.
Lots of men don't care if their shirts are wrinkled. I actually fold clothes every weekend for my guy, ( out of love and out of necessary) because he says I fold clothes better than him (not really) All guys are different, some can iron, some don't know how to work an iron. My bro does not do laundry at all. Its called "throw it on the floor, and eventually I'll pick it up"
All guys are different I guess. I'm amazed you even separate the laundry. :)
Honestly that's been a big deal with me in relationships. I can't let anyone do anything for me. I do my own laundry, I clean, I cook, I go to college full time, and I work 2 jobs, and sleep 3 hours a night. I just have this thing where I don't want to burden any one I know I'm a weirdo...but its me. the right chick is going to have to get used to that. - 2 months ago
I think she'll get used to that real soon! - 24 days ago

Thank you for bringing this up. I've never really thought about it when the situation isn't right in front of me, but guys really do suck at doing laundry. I've even had times when the things they have done doing their own clothes have screwed up mine that I do right after they are done. I don't think they mean to, and sometimes they are trying to help, they just aren't implanted with that gene that tells them what to do. And besides in general I don't think guys care so much if their clothes don't come out exactly the same color as they were when they went in. Also, on a side note I hate it when the detergents and fabric softeners are used improperly; it drives me crazy when they are leaking or being overused.
After having this brought to my attention, I think when I meet guys I'm going to start with "Hi, my name is _______, you will never be allowed to do my laundry."
Well I agree with the guy that mentioned the tags. They are there for a reason lol. I only mention that because I basically learned to do laundry by myself, so reading the tags was pretty important. I had no one to tell me what I should and shouldn't do. Even so, I still don't see a reason for separating colors & whites, my clothes have never bled. The only things I really pay attention to are the fabric [so it doesn't shrink, or maybe it has to be hand-washed, etc.]. That's really the only thing that's important to me.
You are the luckiest launderer ever. I have never met a person in my entire life that has never had something bleed. I'm super careful with laundry and I've had things bleed on me. - 2 months ago
lol you sound exactly like my guy friend! to me it's irritating because when you just throw your clothes in the washer without them being separated. the different colors go everywhere! it is not pretty when your clothes have multiple random colors. and please don't even remind me of putting bleach on your clothes because you decided that when you put the clothes in there with everything else they should be cleaned too! it's horrible! lol my solution is get two baskets and put whites in and colors in the other that way when it comes to washing all you have to do is throw and wash and prevent from looking like a tie dye hippy!
I like your 2 laundry basket idea. I think I'm going to use that! It will save a lot of time and trouble for me. Lol! I can hear the irritation with this issue expressed in you writing. I bet you have fired a boyfriend or two from laundry work. -great response! - j - 2 months ago

No.lol my best guy friend does every time I visit him! - 2 months ago
Ok so the "bleeding thing" as everybody has already said. It doesn't happen as easily as it used to, but it does still happen. And some of it is just a "my mom taught me to do it this way" thing too. Because obviously since bleeding used to be a much bigger issue, it was a lot more critical for our moms than for us. So they drilled it into our heads that THIS is the way to do it. Bleeding doesn't happen as much now it seems like but there's always that risk and usually it's just not worth it. Like someone said. if I wanted a baby blue shirt, I would have bought it in that color. Once the white gets "less white" from faded colors you can't ever really get it back and it can look dingy and just not as attractive as when it was nice crisp white.
Also, not only do we tend to spend a lot of money on our clothes, but we also tend to have a lot more DELICATE clothes. Clothes that require very special care and can VERY easily be ruined if you don't wash them the right way. This is so much more than the sorting, but cycles, water temperature, detergent, how do you dry it (dryer, line, or flat), etc. Then throw in the hand wash stuff and the dry clean only. Lol.
Me personally I don't bother with most of this. Only sorting I really do anymore is I keep the whites separate. Everything else I pretty much throw in together unless it's a particularly special item that I don't want to risk ruining, OR an item that is particularly likely to bleed. VERY VERY dark blues, blacks, and reds run the biggest risk of bleeding. We don't have many of those items though so usually I just pull those out as I come across them and when I finish the "regular" laundry I do a load with whatever darks I have leftover. It's usually a VERY small load, lol.
I never gave consideration to the material and the fact that you ladies do wear some really weird fabrics. I mean they look fine, I just would have never thought about it like this. thank you for this response, because I don't want to ruin my little lady's clothes. that would be very uncool! - j - 2 months ago
I've never heard a woman speak such magical words unto my earsies! -lol I don't get it. No girlfriends would ever explain it either...they would always say the same thing...they learned it from their mothers to do it that way and that from then on the laundry room was off limits for me. :( I call my laundry room the clothes jail now. - 2 months ago

It's probably cause I don't really have any white or light colored clothes, so it doesn't really matter to me. I used to go through the hassle of separating darks from lights, then I realized 3/4 of my clothes were darks so it was kind of pointless. - 2 months ago
colors and whites don't mix. colored clothes bleed and when you mix them with whites the whites won't come out as white any more. if I wanted a baby blue shirt instead of a white one, then I would have bought myself a baby blue shirt. but I didn't hence when I do my laundry I make sure that what goes in the washer, comes out in the same condition. logical? yes. lol I know we're a picky lot but it's like wearing 2 different pairs of socks. it's just not right!
Colors and whites don't mix??? that a little racist isn't it? lmfao! and I got yelled at by a girlfriend once for wearing miss match socks to work. I wasn't my fault I was still sleepy while getting dressed - 2 months ago

I wasn't refer to anything racial!!!! clothes!!! yes, miss matched socks are....oh I don't know but they get on my nerves. it's like walking into a perfectly clean kitchen floor with muddied shoes. makes me scream. lol - 2 months ago
Who gave you the rule of law to determine what is essentially right or wrong on the issue of laundry. Obviously, If the right and wrong way so crystal clear, then this question would never have been presented. I don't think what I was doing was and if I am wrong...i want to understand why. so hence this question. - 2 months ago

The rule of law was granted by all those tags on clothes that tell you what you can and can't do with it for laundering purposes. It is very crystal clear. If you want to understand, then follow the instructions. - 2 months ago
Question Asker
Wow, you really take laundering to heart. I wish I had a career that allowed me more free time in life to assess the laundry tags on my clothing. You are right about the following instructions aspect. But my actions have never been spiteful. thank you, I have to go now. I have a lot of tag reading to catch up on. - j - 2 months ago
I'm in the same boat as you are man. I've tried a lot of times not to f*** up laundry, but each time....they fired my ass! so I definitely agree with you here. - 2 months ago
