I'm in a relationship now that took a turn for the worst. I was with my fiance for two years and we just had a baby. Everything was perfect in the beginning but now they are not. He has completely changed in a way that I don't think I can live with. He is controlling, inconsiderate and not attentive to me or our child. We can't agree on things or how money for the household should be spent. He has this very lame idea about a woman should not work but stay home and raise children. Its so shocking to me because his attitude has taken a 360! Its to a point where I'm considering leaving him because I'm so stressed! My family thinks I should stay and work it out for our child's sake. I having been trying to work it out with him and compromise but it like talking to a brick wall.He still does things that affects the whole family without relaying to me before he does it. I find it disrespectful. I want to work things out but my first priority is to my child.I feel its not fair to our child for us to stay in a relationship with anyone especially if your not happy! So if you were me what would you do?

Do not stay for the child.it's only worse for the child if you continue with things like that. Some people have a tendency to change like that but if it was gradual it could be something affecting him emotionally, a disorder or something affecting his brain.
A friend of mine and her husband started having problems when he just stopped caring about paying the bills and such. Telling her "I don't care, let them take the house, let them take your horses. I'm not paying them". Turns out he had a disorder with his thyroid. Can't remember if it was graves disease or not but it killed a part of his brain that promots logic. He is now taking meds for it. I believe things are slowing getting on track.
I too have a thyroid problem, my TSH levels were extremely high and was affecting my thoughts, feelings, and common sense. Lost all care in my morals and all. Went through depression. I've been on meds for 3 years now and after the first 6 months it was like I came out of a thick fog and thought "who the hell was I?"
So, it could just be him and he changed willingly. Do some research, but when it comes to the thyroid little is written about how it affects the brain. But I would calmly talk things out with him see if he has noticed how he has changed. If he hasn't realized the change.I'd suggest a doctor.
Good luck! I wish you the best.

Question Asker How do we even get this checked out if this is a disease? What do we ask the doctor to check for?
Answerer Well he needs to be willing to go in to get checked out first of all. He may not want to if you suggest it just because his personality has changed.
It could be anything but here are some symptoms to look for if there is something wrong with the thyroid.
Hypothyroidism (underactive)
Weight gain Puffy face
Loss or thinning of eyebrows Cold intolerance
Low sex drive Depression
Abdominal bloating Cold hands or feet
Dry or thinning hair Joint or muscle pain
Thickening of the skin - A month ago

Wow, that seriously sucks. As much as you want to work things out with your partner, if he is not willing to put forth the same amount of dedication, what is the use? It's obvious you care about this dude and your family, but if he can't respect that, I think you should get out. Pretty soon, once your child gets older they might learn to resent them also. You want your child to have a admirable person to look up to. Having some1 that is so unemotional and closed off from you and your child would send them the wrong message. Children learn how to express love the most through the parents. If you guys can't express that toward each other and your not happy, you know what to do. In the end you will be glad you got away and moved on.

Question Asker It sucks big time! What really kills me is when he buys buys expensive things we don't need that he says will help the house but at the same time we are late on bills! I tried helping him to mange his money but he will not listen and I don't want to deal with the consequences of his bad judgments! - 2 months ago

You need to tell him that you are going to leave him unless you guys work this out. It's that simple. You need to make a plan for if he doesn't come to the table. At that point, what happens next is up to you.

Good luck!

Question Asker I tell him almost everyday that I'm going to leave but I thinks he thinks I'm bluffing because I'm not working yet but I'm currently looking for jobs everyday to make money and move. - 2 months ago
Answerer That's sad that he isn't taking you seriously. Now is time to make your plan to move on. In fact, ask a family member if you can stay with them until you get on your feet because if you wait until you get a job, it will take too long. At this point, he isn't taking you seriously and isn't mature enough to assume the role of head of the house, otherwise the bills wouldn't be paid late. Do what's best for you and the baby, NOW! - 2 months ago
