Sounds like he's playing you for a fool. Dump him before your daughter gets too attached to him. Love is never negotiable. You either love someone or you don't. If he says he doesn't love you one day and next day he does he sounds a little unstable and not someone you want to give your heart to.

I don't think you have to convince your real one-true-love to love you. I think you should enjoy being wonderful friends but believe him when he tells you how he feels and don't press. Otherwise you may lose him as a friend. It'll be really hard but you should move on.
