Maybe he's going through something tragic in his life, and he doesn't want any one in the way right now. By saying "right now just isn't a good time for a relationship" probably means that your just one person he doesn't have to worry about. Don't take it to the heart, maybe being friends is just all he needs

Describe your ideal first date; Where do you go? What do you wear? How does the date end?
I would suggest a small hike on a peaceful trail followed by a nice home-cooked meal, made by me of course, either on-site or back at one of our places. After dinner is over and the conversation has died the date would end with a kiss on the hand and a walk to the car.
Afterwards..what will your date know about you?
My date would know what I am about, who I am, a little about what I do and hopefully whether or not I am a candidate for a second round.
