It may be easiest to shave it all. Use a sharp razor. It sounds counter-intuitive, but if you cut yourself with a dull razor it is much worse. Perhaps google for some help on general technique, but as for shape, if you do everything, it's hard to get it wrong or uneven.
It really depends on what you like, want etc. I shave most of it. For help not to get razor burn use the moisturizing shave cream or conditioner if you don't have shave cream. Also if you buy a product called "Couchie Cream" it's a type of conditioner that is used when shaving to help reduce the razor burn, down there.
I shave it all.. don't like press down too hard or you'll cut yourself. use shaving cream or you risk getting razor bumps. Yeah and shave downward! lol

Ok well I shave it all. lol..and the best way to do it is not to shave with razor towards you..but actually shaving in a downward manner..you won't get the red razor bumps and it doesn't hurt at all. Use shaving cream. and just remember..shave downwards! that's the key!
You want to leave a little triangle or square shape on the front. I'd recommend using one of those new Intuition shavers (with the "shaving cream" built right in) so you can see what you're doing but your skin is still protected by that white soapy stuff. You may want to trim it first with scissors then just shave away leaving the shape you want. I'd shave the "lips" cause that's the most important part.
BE GENTLE, GO SLOW
When you're done, use a lotion with Alpha Hydroxy to cut down on the razor burn. It will sting like hell for a couple seconds but if you don't do that, you might get little red razor burn bumps all over.
Also, if that doesn't work or you aren't comfortable, head to a salon that does waxing, get ready for the worst pain of your life and just let a professional do it. The effects of waxing don't leave razor burn and they last for at least a week.
The goal is to keep your goods trim and neat...not necessarily to look like a porn star so don't go overboard.
