I have very pale skin and I used to be insecure about it but now I accept it and consider myself attractive, as do others. It might be because I live in Minnesota now [versus California where I used to live] where pale skin is common among "white" people anyways.

Update: well from the polls I've definitely got my answer: in general it's not the color of someone's skin that makes them physically attractive but rather their other physical features.    9 months ago

I think it makes a person more attractive because it makes them look younger

It doesn't matter as long as the skin is clear and the facial features are attractive

It makes a person look unattractive no matter what

I'm Irish, so I have no choice on this one. It bothered me when I was younger, but it doesn't now. I live in Chicago where there are lots of Irish people so I guess that might be part of the reason that I have never had trouble finding guys that liked the pale skin. Personally I like how it looks. Overly tan people frighten me. Every time I see one I can't help but wonder just how much time they devote to being tan, and I just can't help but think that they are probably kind of vacuous.

Question Asker Well I'm glad that someone else here believes! I'm realizing now, just like you wrote, that it depends on where you live. Until 5 months ago I've mostly grown up in California and Washington where most people I knew were into getting tans. But now I live in Minnesota where it's definitely accepted more because it's more common. - 11 months ago
Answerer Oh definitely the regional thing matters. What's funny is that I've noticed when I'm in sunnier states everyone always thinks I'm younger than I am. I spent a week in Phoenix recently and people consistently thought I was in college or something. I guess the lack of tan/leathering of the skin just makes me look young by comparison. - 11 months ago
Question Asker Oh I get that I look young for my age all the time too! apparently I still look like a teenager. and I believe that it partly has to do with me having pale skin and not going tanning that much keeps my skin soft. Because tanning typically makes someone age quickly I don't know why there has been such an epidemic of it over the last few years. people were bored with naturally white skin? also I meant to write "agrees" instead of "believes." multi-tasking... - 11 months ago

you know, I have been reading the questions about pale skin's desirability and I have to say, I am GLAD that I don't tan. I have pretty pale skin and I have been self conscience about it, but I AM becoming more confidence with it. I DON'T want to look like I'm 50 when I am only 40. And I don't like the idea of just laying outside to get a tan, I rather do it more organic manner like by doing a physical outdoor acitivity.

I agree though, tanorexia look disgusting and not hot. The only time I find the tan look attractive is on people who ARE naturally tan. I do like extreme skin colors like VERY VERY dark skin. It's sooo damn sexy on a man...

I'm black and I have light brown skin. I think pale skin is gorgeous - especially contrasted against really dark hair. I love extremes - like, really, REALLY dark skin (Alek Wek) and really pale skin (Rose McGowan). I would never go tanning if I were white. Lol!

yea I have very pale skin too. I use to be self conscience about it, my friends would always go tanning and my mom never let me because she's a health freak lol. now I accept it and I think I look pretty damn good. besides I got compliments from guys who digs the light skin with blue eyes and dark hair. and its good to know I'm not getting melanoma lol

Question Asker Pretty much same here! and my parents didn't allow me to go in a tanning bed either but when I was on my own in college I did sometimes. it didn't do much, though, because of having so light skin to begin with and not going too often. no one tells me that it's my light skin that they find attractive but maybe that is partly it for me. and to think that I used to believe that if only I had tanned skin then I would be attractive... - 11 months ago

I have pale skin. When I was younger, I was insecure about it because people would tell me that I needed to tan and I looked sickly. But now, I love my complexion. I don't really know why, I just do. My mom is naturally really tan, and she told me that she wishes she had my complexion because my skin looks healthier than hers.

Question Asker Almost exact same here!! except my mom also has light skin but I did have a best friend who was gorgeous with a natural tan and natural blonde hair. I used to be jealous of the way she looks but she always told me that she always wanted light skin! I thought that she was crazy because pretty much everything about the way she looks is "perfect" but now I'm realizing that light skin is also beautiful in its own way. - 11 months ago

I think pale skin is a blessing, and I wish I had it, but then again being pale doesn't suit me. If you suit it then flaunt it!

Question Asker Another true answer! I'm not saying that pale skin looks best on everyone but, unlike what girls on my old cheer squad who were obsessed with getting tanned believed, it doesn't necessarily make someone unattractive. Sure, it usually washes out those with blonde hair but it can look appealing on those with dark hair [like me] and especially those with red hair. Besides me another good example of those with pale skin and dark hair would be the characters Rory and Lorelai on The Gilmore Girls. - 11 months ago
Answerer I hate girls who are over-tanned. Another great example is Nicola from Girl's Aloud, or Dita von Teese. I am slightly tanned but you can't really tell. - 11 months ago

pasty is tasty. yes I know that sounds discusting, but I couldn't think of another rhyme for pale and beauty. I remember reading in the history books about "blue-bloods" and about how the more pale a woman was, the more desirable she was. what ever happened to those days?

Question Asker Sweet another person agreeing with me about very light skin! I think that the tanning industry ruined those days, probably just so that they could make money. fortunately I've noticed that in the last couple years lighter skin is making a come-back and those who bought the lie that the more tan they are the better are suffering the consequences. - 11 months ago
Answerer Yay for much needed come-backs! - 11 months ago

i live on the gulf coast, less than 2 miles from the beach and I am as white as the sand. I like to say that I have "milky" skin, it sounds more appealing than "pale". I love my skin color, I wouldn't change it for the world, plus, when I'm 40 my face won't look like an old leather hand bag (and neither will the rest of me)

my mom's best friend, who is several years younger than herself, used to tan everyday if the sun was out and in the winter would go to the tanning beds. they went to a movie together and the ticket guy mistook my mom's younger friend for her mother! UV damage is a real thing and if I can avoid it, I do.

Question Asker Very true! also I'm often mistaken for being a few years younger than I am [like 17 or younger...and I'm almost 21] both because of my height and because because of my face, which I'm sure is because it's very white. and I've seen girls in their 20's who look much older - usually in a bad way - simply because they've been tanning a lot. so I guess not being out in the sun and in tanning beds that much will be a good thing when I'm older because I'll still look very young! - 11 months ago

I like pale skin because being naturally dark, I always feel dirty. Porcelain skin is more pure looking.

Question Asker True, but I don't think naturally dark skin is necessarily unattractive; it's the fake orange tans that I don't get why they're supposedly "in" and popular. - 11 months ago
Answerer Definitely. Who ever decided orange looked good? - 11 months ago
Question Asker The tanning industry apparently... - 11 months ago
TSparks Why would you feel dirty being naturally dark, I love all colors of skin, light, dark, pale, golden, love the skin you're in. - 10 months ago
Answerer Because dirt is dark and makes your skin darker. - 10 months ago
spazticbert88 I always thought dark skin looked very smooth and gorgeous. Be proud of your color =) - 6 months ago
