Is the term "white boy" offensive?

Why or why not?

  • Depends on the context and the person saying it. I've been called it before by an old black guy but he meant to be playful and was a jokester and he did it as an endearing term. Now if it's someone I didn't know and I was just minding my own business and someone was like "Hey, white boy" I might get a little offended but it would depend on his tone also. Usually you can tell if someone is joking or being playful or if they are serious and trying to start trouble.

  • I think it depends more on the use and inflection than anything else.

  • It doesn't come off as very polite but I've never seen it as being offensive.
